The Role

  • This role sits at the heart of how we make smart, responsible decisions for our customers.
  • As the Decision Support Analyst within Risk and Asset Planning, you will support the Risk and Asset Planning Manager in developing the analytical insight to enable the business to understand, quantify and manage risk across thousands of assets. Working across Operations, Engineering, Asset Management and Finance, you will combine statistical analysis and geospatial intelligence to help identify where investment will deliver the greatest benefit for customers.
  • A key part of the role is supporting and continually developing our ArcGIS Online Risk Management System, ensuring risk information is accurate, insightful and trusted across the organisation.
  • While this is a technical role, you'll also play an important part in translating complex data into clear, practical insight that supports confident decision making. Your work will help shape long-term asset planning and support value-based investment decisions. Working alongside colleagues responsible for value frameworks and asset health, you'll provide the trusted analytical evidence that underpins strategic investment decisions and delivers long-term value for our customers.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Manage, analyse and assure risk information within the ArcGIS Online Risk Management System, ensuring high standards of data quality, governance and integrity.
  • Develop county-level risk insight and long-term planning information that supports sustainable investment strategies across the region.
  • Support the development and continual improvement of asset class strategies by providing robust analytical evidence, performance insight and risk-based recommendations.
  • Develop automated and semi-automated analytical processes that identify anomalous or unexpected risk values, improving confidence in risk information.
  • Develop dashboards, reports, maps and visualisations that communicate analytical insight effectively.
  • Support value optimisation activities by providing risk-based analytical evidence that informs investment prioritisation in Copperleaf
  • Support the continual development of the Asset Management System and Risk & Asset Planning capability, ensuring alignment with ISO55000 principles and business objectives.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Degree (or equivalent professional experience) in GIS, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Environmental Science or another analytical discipline.
  • Proven experience delivering technical analytical solutions that support evidence-based decision making, with excellent analytical and statistical skills and the ability to interpret complex datasets.
  • Strong GIS and geospatial analytical capability are essential, including experience using ArcGIS (preferably ArcGIS Online) to analyse, manage and communicate spatial information.
  • Strong SQL capability is essential, including experience querying and analysing large datasets using enterprise database platforms such as Exasol, Databricks or equivalent, together with advanced experience using Power BI and Microsoft Excel to develop dashboards, reports and analytical insight.
  • A good understanding of risk management principles and how organisations use evidence to manage uncertainty, support long-term planning and make informed investment decisions.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deliver high-quality analytical outputs and continually improve ways of working.
  • Self-motivated, inquisitive and innovative, with a passion for using data and analytics to solve complex business problems.

Ideal To Have But Not Required:

  • Experience using FME Workbench for geospatial data transformation, automation and integration.
  • Experience using Python for statistical analysis, automation or geospatial processing
  • Knowledge of Asset Management principles, including familiarity with ISO 55000/55001, and an understanding of how analytical insight supports long-term investment planning and value optimisation

We rely on every employee to ensure our customers receive the best possible service, day in, day out. In return, we ensure that you will be well rewarded for your efforts, from an excellent salary through to development opportunities that will really kick start a thriving career here at UU.
