At Airbus UpNext , we fly future technologies at speeds well beyond what seems feasible today. We're looking for passionate individuals to join a new demonstrator project that is shaping the future of sustainable aviation by advancing the aircraft electrification ⚡ roadmap.

This project will focus on the challenges and opportunities of High Voltage Electrical Systems , which are essential for next-generation, low-emission aircraft part of Airbus ambition to electrify the skies.

As part of a fast-paced, agile team, you will help create a unique, state-of-the-art test facility from the ground up. Your mission will be to explore novel HV technologies at their limits and beyond, generating invaluable data and learnings needed to build the robust and reliable aircraft of tomorrow by safely testing the unsafe.

The Electrical Design Engineer position consists of a limited contract linked to the deliverable of the demonstrator (estimated completion date April - 2028 ) , starting ASAP.

Mission:

Reporting directly to the Technical Director, you will be a key technical specialist for industrial electrical equipment within aeronautical High Voltage ranges - up to 1250VDC, 1MW.

You will specify, select and manage custom power sources, electronic loads, energy storage systems driving their specification, development, installation, integration, electrical commissioning and functional check out leading to Entry Into Service. Additionally you will support R&T prototype adaptations and contribute to electrical risk analysis and safety procedures.

Your Main Responsibilities:

  • Test Bench Industrial Equipment Specification: Design and specify the functional industrial hardware required for a High Voltage test bench - including AC / DC power supplies, dynamic load banks, switching matrices, energy storage systems, arc-flash creation and short-circuit injection systems.
  • Instrumentation & Data Acquisition (DAQ): Design and specify high-bandwidth, isolated DAQ hardware, sensors, and conditioning modules capable of operating in high Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) environments with high-voltage and high-current measurements.
  • Supplier Technical Steering: Draft Purchaser Technical Specifications for test bench industrial electrical systems. Evaluate technical proposals, drive technical trade-offs and follow up and steer supplier milestones and deliverables across the project lifecycle.
  • Integration & Validation: Contribute to the installation, verification, commissioning and functional validation of industrial power equipment and System Under Test interfaces, paving the way to test bench entry into service and supporting the Test Campaign afterwards performing test data, root cause analysis and problem management.
  • Electrical Safety & Operations: Support risk analysis for establishing all required documentation for human safety related to the electrical perimeter. Contribute to the definition of the operational procedures for the test bench and operations, ensuring full compliance with electrical safety standards and industrial regulations.
  • R&T Prototype Evolution Support: Contribute to the required electrical evolution, adaptation and modification of selected Systems Under Test - HV Batteries, Power Converters, Electrical Power Distribution Systems - in collaboration with the System Electrical Architect, enabling specific test configurations and extracting valuable technical insights.

The responsibilities and the technical scope of the job might evolve according to the agile working environment of the project, so being flexible is important.

What you bring:

  • Experience : Proven experience of 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience in high-power electrical engineering, industrial power equipment specification and electrical bench/system integration within aerospace, energy or electric transportation sectors.
  • Education: Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Industrial Engineering.
  • Hardware Expertise: Deep technical understanding of high-power equipment up to the 1MW class - programmable AC/DC power sources, electronic loads, switching matrices, power converters, power cyclators. R&T electrical prototypes - batteries, distribution units, converters alongside power measurement instrumentation would be a strong plus.
  • Supplier Management: Hands-on track record in steering suppliers through manufacturing and acceptance phases. Purchaser Technical Specification drafting, vendor technical proposals evaluation and technical follow-up.
  • Multi-Disciplinary Exposure: Background or prior hands-on exposure to adjacent disciplines - mechanical mock-ups, cable routing / EMC, control automation, etc. - is considered a strong plus, though not a mandatory requirement.
  • Languages: English - fluency mandatory. Spanish is considered a plus.
  • Mindset: Pragmatic, flexible, hands-on, autonomous and safety conscious with a desire to solve complex challenges in an agile, changing and fast-paced environment.
