Group Accountant

Admiral Insurance is looking to recruit a Group Accountant within the insurance accounting team. This is a real opportunity within a FTSE100 Group to shape systems and processes in the Finance function.

Key Aspects of the Role:

Reporting to the Insurance Accounting Manager, this role supports both the UK and European insurance entities and contributes directly to high quality Group reporting. The role covers core areas of insurance financial reporting and financial control, including reviewing results, challenging assumptions, and preparing insightful analysis and disclosure content. The successful candidate will act as a Group subject matter expert on key technical insurance accounting matters.

This position requires a proactive individual with strong analytical skills, excellent organisation and time management, and a focus on technical accounting, data quality, and robust financial controls.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform regular reviews of insurance financial data across the Group to identify trends and support the production of high-quality management information for internal boards, committees, and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare key Group financial reporting disclosures, including profit analyses and financial statement notes, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with relevant accounting standards.
  • Perform the investment accounting process for the UK underwriter, including preparing investment journals, reconciling balances, and supporting the review of investment income and valuations to ensure accurate reporting in accordance with Group policies.
  • Prepare the year‑end statutory accounts for the UK underwriter, assisting with schedules, reconciliations, and draft disclosures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in line with relevant accounting standards.
  • Support the external audit process by coordinating audit requests, preparing supporting documentation and analysis, and assisting in resolving technical accounting queries.
  • Involvement in regulatory returns for the UK underwriter, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant regulatory submissions, and working closely with actuarial and risk teams to validate underlying data and assumptions.
  • Assist with testing key insurance controls across the Group, including helping to carry out test procedures, documenting findings, and supporting the team in following up on any actions needed
  • Support wider Group Finance activities by contributing to cross‑functional projects, providing technical advice, and completing ad‑hoc tasks and analysis as required.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or equivalent)
  • Strong numeracy and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across Finance, Actuarial, and wider business teams
  • Effective task and time management, with the ability to prioritise workload, manage multiple deliverables, and meet tight deadlines.

Desirable skills:

  • Experience within General Insurance or the wider Financial Services sector (beneficial but not essential)
