About this Role

As a Senior Zabbix Observability Expert, you will lead the design, implementation, and adoption of a scalable monitoring solution using Zabbix across the organisation. This role involves consolidating legacy platforms, onboarding infrastructure and applications, and enabling internal teams through training and support. You will ensure monitoring aligns with business and technical KPIs, supports proactive incident detection, and enhances operational visibility through customised dashboards and alerting mechanisms. You will play a pivotal role in driving observability maturity and fostering a culture of data-driven operations.

What you’ll do

  • Monitoring Solution Delivery
    • Design and deploy a new Zabbix-based monitoring solution.
    • Develop scalable and reusable monitoring templates for infrastructure and applications.
    • Ensure platform readiness for onboarding hundreds of assets.
  • Migration & Consolidation
    • Lead migration from legacy systems (e.g., Icinga) to Zabbix.
    • Prepare bulk migration strategies including agent deployment, template mapping, and firewall rule configuration.
    • Ensure minimal downtime and data integrity during migration.
  • Documentation & Onboarding
    • Create onboarding guides for infrastructure teams.
    • Document custom checks, alerting rules, and notification workflows.
    • Maintain version-controlled repositories for templates and scripts.
  • Training & Enablement
    • Conduct training sessions for IT Operations on Zabbix usage and troubleshooting.
    • Host weekly support clinics and develop self-service materials and FAQs.
  • Business Metrics & Dashboards
    • Collaborate with business, operations, and development teams to define key metrics.
    • Build dashboards visualising application health, performance, and SLA adherence.
    • Implement golden signals (latency, error rate, throughput, saturation) for service health monitoring.

What skills you need

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with Zabbix monitoring, including implementation, customisation, and administration.
  • Proven experience migrating from legacy platforms like Icinga.
  • Strong scripting skills in Bash or Python for automation and custom checks.
  • Proficiency in monitoring protocols such as SNMP and JMX.
  • Experience in training IT teams and preparing documentation.
  • Ability to build dashboards aligned with business KPIs.
  • Familiarity with Grafana integration and hybrid observability practices.
  • Preferred certifications: Zabbix Certified Specialist or Zabbix Certified Professional.
