If you want to grow your career whilst finding the perfect balance between work and life, Vodafone offers the opportunities to help you belong and make a real impact. We are seeking a motivated Backend Software Engineer to join our Digital Experience Layer (DxL) engineering team. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, testing, and maintenance of backend services that power digital channels and customer-facing applications. You will work closely with other engineers, architects, product teams, and QA to build scalable, secure, and high-performing backend solutions while following modern software engineering practices. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to grow their technical skills and gain experience working with cloud-native applications and microservices.

What you’ll do

  • Develop RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot;
  • Contribute to the implementation of scalable and reliable microservices;
  • Collaborate with frontend engineers and other cross-functional teams to deliver end-to-end solutions;
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following engineering best practices;
  • Participate in code reviews and technical discussions;
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application issues;
  • Support the continuous improvement of application performance, reliability, and maintainability;
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes;
  • Work within Agile/Scrum teams to deliver high-quality software.

Who you are

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience);
  • Experience with Java and Spring Boot;
  • Understanding of REST APIs and backend application development;
  • Knowledge of microservices architecture principles;
  • Experience with Git and Maven;
  • Familiarity with relational and/or NoSQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MongoDB);
  • Understanding of unit and integration testing (e.g. JUnit, Mockito);
  • Exposure to Docker and containerized applications is a plus;
  • Basic understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is an advantage;
  • Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and DevOps practices is desirable;
  • Understanding of Clean Code principles and software design fundamentals;
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills;
  • Willingness to learn, receive feedback, and continuously develop technical skills.
