Job Description

Role purpose:

The Vodafone Business Digital & IT organisation designs and delivers innovative technology solutions to drive and sustain Vodafone Business growth, across all its segments (SoHo, SME, Large & Multinational Enterprises). The scope of internal customers is broad, and includes four lines of businesses (Vodafone Global Enterprise, Vodafone Carrier Services, Internet of Things, and Cloud & Hosting Services), Business Strategy & Transformation, Product Management, Sales, and Global Operations.
The function also builds reusable and redeployable technology assets that cater to the IT needs of Enterprise Business Units (EBUs) in a number of Vodafone Local Markets. As part of our transformation into delivering more business value through Agile, we are growing our Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and Agile delivery team capability.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership:

• Support the team to meet the Sprint Goals.
• Ensure the user story life cycle is fit for purpose
• Promote the principle of continuous improvement through using agile practices such as Sprint retrospectives and coordinate the implementation of any improvement action.
• Coordinate and support in the identification of risks, dependencies and impediments, to facilitate the team and business in finding a solution, collaborating with other teams and stakeholders, and actively escalate, when necessary, to ensure resolution.
• Coordinates solution implementation and delivery with other Release Trains and/or delivery agencies.
• Coach the Product Owner in different techniques to build the backlog (e.g: UserStory mapping, Impact Mapping) and user story writing, staying on top of the backlog refinement
• Coach the Development team on appropriately splitting tasks, focusing on the continuous delivery of business value.
• Promote self-organisation within the team.
• Constantly engaged in challenging the status-quo when not fit for purpose.
• Help foster best Software Engineering practices

In the context of an Agile Release Train, the Scrum Master has additional responsibilities:
• Coordinates with other Scrum Masters, the System Team, and shared resources in the ART Release Planning and Inspect and Adapt ceremonies
• Facilitates preparation and readiness for release planning and ceremonies
• Use of normalised estimations to help the program estimate larger Features and EPICs
• Coordinates teams’ efforts under architectural and portfolio governance, system level integration and Demos
• Coordinates with other Scrum Masters in the Scrum of Scrums

Core competencies, knowledge and experience:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject
  • Experience of working on projects that span multi-disciplinary areas of differing size and complexity to meet business expectations and deliver results
  • Confident and able to liaise and influence at all levels within Vodafone and/or relevant customer organizations
  • Able to communicate effectively across organisational, technical and political boundaries, understanding the context
  • Understands business requirements, Drives improvements and process innovation

Must have technical / professional qualifications:

• Coach and mentor the team within the Scrum principles in order to deliver high quality features and products.
• Accountable for the delivery metric reporting for the team/squad
• Track risks, issues and dependencies, ensuring appropriate awareness and impacts are well known
• Coordination on the removal of impediments in the organization for the team to deliver against objectives or escalate appropriately
• Coordinates with other Scrum Masters, the System Team, and shared resources in the ART Release Planning and Inspect and Adapt ceremonies
• Facilitates preparation and readiness for release planning and ceremonies
• Track team deliveries and associated effort against plan. Core competencies, knowledge and experience:
• University/Superior Education degree in STEM
• Scrum Master certification
• Experience playing the Scrum Master role for a software development team applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory.
• Proven experience of delivery in an agile development environment, ideally with a range of methodologies (such as SAFe, Scrum, Kanban, XP, etc.).
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills
• Knowledge skill set around leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continuous improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency
• Knowledge of a number of Agile patterns and techniques (ie: Story Point estimating, Technical debt management, testing, Agile games, Burndown, Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc.)
• Knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, TDD, etc.
• Experience of working in an off-shore development model and a multi-team delivery.
• Analytical and problem solving skills.

Key performance indicators:

• Experience coaching Agile teams, teams moving from Waterfall to Agile and new formed teams
• Previous experience as a team lead
• Previous experience in Scaling Agile and/or doing Scrum in multiple teams
• Experience implementing DevOps
• Agile Coaching certification
• Scale Agile certification
