About this Role

We are seeking a Responsible AI Governance Lead to drive the implementation and operationalisation of Responsible AI across VOIS. This role will act as the key connection between legal, compliance, privacy, technical, security and product teams, ensuring that AI solutions are developed, deployed and monitored in line with regulatory requirements, ethical standards and Vodafone Group governance frameworks. The role will lead the translation of evolving AI regulations, including the EU AI Act and related global frameworks, into practical processes, technical controls and governance requirements. The successful candidate will support AI innovation while ensuring that AI products and services remain compliant, transparent, trustworthy and commercially sustainable across multiple international markets.

What you’ll do

  • Translate AI regulatory and governance requirements, including the EU AI Act and data protection obligations, into practical technical and operational requirements for AI teams.
  • Embed compliance, privacy, legal and governance controls throughout the AI software development lifecycle, ensuring traceability, accountability and audit readiness.
  • Lead AI risk assessments, conformity assessments and governance reviews, particularly for high-risk AI use cases.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, governance records, audit trails and monitoring frameworks for AI systems.
  • Oversee post-deployment compliance activities, including risk monitoring, testing, assurance activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between engineering, product, security, privacy, legal and compliance stakeholders.
  • Partner with AI governance, architecture and security teams to implement responsible AI controls and compliance frameworks.
  • Ensure transparency requirements are fulfilled, including user disclosures, record keeping and regulatory documentation.
  • Design and deliver training, awareness programmes and guidance materials to build responsible AI capability across the organisation.
  • Coordinate AI incident response, remediation activities and regulatory reporting where required.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify governance processes, improve operational efficiency and reduce compliance bottlenecks.
  • Advise senior leaders on emerging AI regulatory developments, governance risks and strategic implications.
  • Support the drafting and review of AI-related contractual provisions in collaboration with legal and procurement stakeholders.
  • Lead regulatory engagement activities, including conformity assessments, submissions and interactions with relevant authorities where required.

Who you are

  • Significant experience in AI governance, compliance, legal, privacy, technology risk management or a related discipline within a technology-led organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of the EU AI Act, GDPR and other relevant AI, privacy and technology regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate regulatory requirements into technical controls, operational processes and governance frameworks.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, assurance activities and lifecycle compliance reviews for AI systems.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence diverse audiences across global organisations.
  • Experience working in cross-functional, matrixed and multicultural environments.
  • Highly analytical, detail-oriented and solution-focused, with excellent judgement and decision-making capabilities.
  • Passion for Responsible AI, technology ethics and the societal impact of emerging technologies.
  • Educated to an advanced degree level in Law or a related discipline.
  • Professional certifications in AI governance, data privacy, compliance or AI safety methodologies are advantageous.
  • Familiarity with machine learning concepts, including LLMs, transformers, alignment, robustness, and open-source versus proprietary models, with the ability to assess AI architectures from a governance perspective.
