Job Description
Exciting new opportunity for a Legal Counsel - Data Privacy reporting to a Senior Legal Counsel within the Consumer & Data team this is a Legal Counsel role within Virgin Media O2’s General Counsel’s Office, providing commercially focused, accurate, effective, and timely legal advice, analysis, and support to the business on a broad range of data and privacy legal matters, including legal advisory support to various business partners.
The role is varied and fast paced, encompassing advisory as well as transactional matters. This individual will be a versatile resource, working on multiple material matters and key initiatives across Virgin Media O2, ensuring consistent, pro-active, value enhancing and high calibre support for the business and the efficient and effective execution and delivery of material contracts.

The must haves
In order to be considered, you must have at least one year's experience of the following:
- General Data Protection Regulation, ePrivacy Regulation, and other legislative and regulatory enhancements to the existing data protection legal regime and where full business readiness is imperative;
- “business as usual” data protection issues such as marketing consents, opt-outs, competitions, privacy policy and notices, data sharing agreements, international transfers of data;
- developing product offerings, and novel use of data (e.g. customer analytics, data leveraging, insight, data profiling, use of advertising / social networking data).
- use of data and data protection clauses (including where international transfers are required), assessing the risk to Virgin Media O2 of certain contractual terms;
- responds to internal and external contacts in a timely and effective manner. Proactively progresses matters to a conclusion through efficient and effective planning and management to meet competing demands
- ability to adapt to change and ambiguity in a complex, constantly evolving environment, and competent in coping with uncertainty and risk, advising and making recommendations on short timescales based on information available at the time.
- provides sound commercial legal advice, utilising knowledge of the competition, industry, the bigger organisational picture, and key issues facing our business. Solutions orientated and able to simplify complex matters.

- Self-knowledge – ability to know own limits and to manage these.
- Strong moral/ethical convictions.
- Self-sufficient and proactive with sound business acumen, able to analyse complex legal and commercial issues in the context of the business’ core business issues and challenges.
- Degree level education / relevant professional qualifications.
- Relevant and demonstrable data legal experience, gained both in private legal practice and, ideally, in industry as well.
- Strong data protection legislation and regulation knowledge
