Job Description

The Infrastructure Engineering team is responsible for the engineering of all technology solutions that underpin Virgin Media O2’s business critical applications, including Architecting, Designing and Implementing robust and highly available technology solutions that service VMO2’s forty million customers every day.
The purpose of the Private Cloud Engineering role is to work closely with all other disciplines in the VMO2 Engineering team to engineer robust and highly available solutions from conception through to implementation.
They are working on sophisticated requirements and translating them into solutions the business can consume. The Private Cloud Engineer is the technology domain expert for Openshift & UNIX Engineering across all business-critical programmes and projects within Virgin Media O2.
They are responsible for build, configuration & implementation, in line with architectural and design principles, of all new services place on our internal cloud platforms. Over and above strategy definition & technology delivery, the Private Cloud Engineer will identify and deliver service improvements across the estate, inclusive of tooling, automation and delivering efficiencies.

The must haves In order to be considered, you must have the following experience;

  • Comprehensive Redhat Openshift knowledge including the build on both ‘bare metal and deployments on virtual clusters.
  • Minimum 5 years hands on experience building, configuring and optimising UNIX/Linux platforms gained in an enterprise sized environment
  • Strong scripting skills and experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, YAML)
  • Significant knowledge and experience with virtualization technologies - VMWare
  • Experience of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment using Agile methodologies

The other stuff we are looking for We'd also love you to bring;

  • Proficiency with containerization and orchestration tools, including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP LAN/WAN/SDN networking principles, SAN & NAS based technologies & enterprise storage solutions
  • Qualified in one or more ITIL / Project Delivery methodologies
