Job Description

We have an amazing new opportunity for a Digital Technical Lead to join the Consumer Engineering team.

This role is all about leading a squad's back-end development and integration efforts within the consumer team. It is key to maintaining the technical quality and efficiency of our microservices architecture in a cloud-native environment. As the Senior Technical Lead, you’ll mentor and guide the backend developers in your squad, making sure all technical work runs smoothly and solutions are delivered to a high standard.

With strong leadership, clear communication, and a collaborative approach, you’ll be in charge of hitting operational goals for your area and boosting our overall technical capabilities.

You'll manage and oversee the development and upkeep of a microservice architecture, making sure everything is built to a high standard by following best practices and agreed patterns. You'll guide the team to ensure they're building the right things, the right way. You will also lead and guide the backend developers in your squads, making sure all project work gets done on time through effective management. Encourage teamwork and collaboration to deliver projects smoothly and successfully.

You'll spend about 30% of your time on hands-on development, 50% on solution design and managing the technical backlog for future sprints, and the remaining 20% on line management duties, like mentoring the team and doing performance reviews.

So, we build equity and inclusion into everything we do, from the policies we craft to the relationships we shape. We support and encourage you to be your authentic self throughout your application journey with us.

The must haves

In order to be considered, you must have the following experience;

  • Extensive experience in back-end development using Node.js and Java as well as Kubernetes
  • Proven experience in managing microservices and leading technical teams
  • Strong background in cloud-native environments
  • Familiarity with project management and collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Slack

The other stuff we are looking for

We'd also love you to bring;

  • Experience working within a telecommunications organisation

What's in it for you

Working at Virgin Media O2, you get a bumper reward package bursting with benefits, and loads of extras you can add if you’d like to. These are designed to support both you and your loved ones, making sure that you’re covered no matter what life throws your way.

Next steps

If we feel like a place where you can belong, we'd love to learn more about you as a person and your experience to date. Once you've submitted an application the next steps of the process, if successful, are likely to include a personality profile assessment followed by a competency-based interview.

When you apply, you'll be asked about any adjustments you might need to support the recruitment process. Let us know, and we'll be sure to discuss it with you.

Please note: Applications will be reviewed, and interviews conducted throughout the duration of this advert, therefore we may bring the closing date forward. We encourage all interested applicants to apply as soon as possible. If you’re offered a job with us, it will be conditional, based on the passing of background checks. All roles require a criminal record check and some roles need a financial probity check. Your recruiter can provide you with more information if needed.

Thanks for your patience and for showing an interest in joining the Virgin Media O2 family.
