Job Description

Weekend Client Care Advisor – Vets4Pets Colchester and Vets4Pets Colchester Referral Hospital

Looking for a role that fits around your week? Love people, love animals and enjoy being part of a busy team?

We’re looking for a friendly, proactive and positive Client Care Advisor to join our growing team in Colchester, working weekends only.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking for a regular part-time role that provides the chance to work within a busy veterinary environment without committing to weekday shifts.

Whether you're looking to fit work around family life, studies, another role or simply want to keep your weekdays free, this could be the perfect opportunity to join our team.

You'll work across both our busy first-opinion practice and our Referral & ECC Hospital, helping to ensure our clients and their pets receive an outstanding experience throughout their visit.

What Your Weekend Will Look Like

No two weekends will be exactly the same.

As a key member of our Client Care team, you'll be the welcoming face of our practice and an important link between our clients and clinical teams.

You'll work across front-of-house and telephone-based client care, supporting appointments, admissions and discharges, handling enquiries and helping our hospital teams keep everything running smoothly.

You'll work closely with Veterinary Surgeons, Registered Veterinary Nurses, Veterinary Care Assistants and Hospital Operations Coordinators, gaining valuable experience in a busy and varied veterinary environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcoming clients and providing an exceptional front-of-house experience
  • Handling inbound calls, digital messages and emails
  • Managing appointment bookings and client enquiries
  • Supporting patient admissions and discharges
  • Taking payments and assisting clients with their queries
  • Supporting referral coordination and communication between teams
  • Maintaining accurate client and patient records
  • Helping clinical teams with day-to-day administrative support
  • Supporting smooth patient and client flow throughout the hospital
  • Providing a calm, compassionate and professional service, particularly when clients may be worried about their pets
  • Working collaboratively with the wider weekend clinical and client care team

A Weekend-Only Role Designed Around Your Life

Want to work in veterinary care without giving up your weekdays?

This role is specifically designed for someone who wants to work weekends only, providing a consistent part-time commitment while keeping the rest of your week free.

We are looking for candidates who can commit to either:

  • Every second weekend, or
  • Approximately 1.5 weekends in every four-week rota

The exact pattern can be discussed as part of the recruitment process.

There are no night or out-of-hours shifts associated with this role.

As we are a busy hospital providing client care throughout the day, we're ideally looking for candidates who are happy to work later daytime shifts starting from 10:30am when required.

This could suit you if you're:

  • Studying during the week
  • Looking for work alongside another job
  • Balancing work with family or caring responsibilities
  • Looking for a regular weekend-only role
  • Wanting to gain experience within the veterinary sector
  • Looking for a way to build your customer service and veterinary experience without a full-time commitment

Keep your weekdays for yourself, while becoming an important part of our veterinary team at weekends.

The Person We're Looking For

You don't need previous veterinary experience to be successful in this role.

We're looking for someone who is warm, reliable, confident and genuinely enjoys helping people.

You'll bring:

  • A warm, friendly and professional manner
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A strong can-do attitude
  • Natural problem-solving ability
  • Good organisation and attention to detail
  • The ability to stay calm and positive when things get busy
  • A genuine team-player mentality
  • Reliability and commitment to delivering excellent client care
  • A willingness to work later daytime shifts from 10:30am where required
  • A genuine interest in animals and their wellbeing

Previous veterinary experience would be beneficial but is not essential.

Experience in customer service, hospitality, healthcare, retail or another client-facing environment could be equally valuable.

What matters most to us is your attitude, communication skills and desire to provide a great experience for our clients and their pets.

Full training will be provided.

Why Join Us?

This is a great opportunity to become part of a growing veterinary team while keeping your working commitment focused around weekends.

You'll benefit from:

  • £26,500 – £28,500 per annum (FTE), depending on your level of relevant client care experience
  • A dedicated weekend-only part-time role
  • Choice of approximately every second weekend or 1.5 weekends in every four weeks
  • Annual leave is pro rata
  • Pension scheme
  • Colleague discount, including 20% discount at Pets at Home
  • Full training and ongoing development support
  • The opportunity to develop your veterinary and client care experience
  • The chance to work alongside experienced Veterinary Surgeons, Registered Veterinary Nurses and wider hospital teams
  • A supportive and collaborative working environment

Why You'll Love Working With Us

At Vets for Pets Colchester, Client Care is about much more than answering phones and booking appointments.

You'll be helping people through some of the most important moments in their pets' lives — from routine appointments through to referrals and more complex cases.

You'll have the opportunity to:

Make a difference – Help clients feel supported and cared for when they need us.

Build your experience – Gain valuable experience within a busy veterinary environment.

Work as part of a team – Become part of a supportive multidisciplinary team.

Enjoy variety – Every weekend brings different clients, patients and challenges.

Keep your weekdays free – Work a regular weekend pattern while retaining flexibility throughout the rest of your week.

If you're friendly, dependable and passionate about delivering great client care — and a weekend-only role sounds like the right fit for you — we'd love to hear from you.
