    Job description

Registered Veterinary Nurse - Full Time | CPD encouraged and supported

If you're looking for a nursing role where you'll be trusted, supported and encouraged to use your skills, we'd love to hear from you.

We're looking for an RVN to join our friendly and growing team in Portishead. Whether you're newly qualified or bring years of experience, we're more interested in finding someone who enjoys being part of a team, cares about their patients and wants to work in a positive, supportive environment.

    The Practice

We're a modern, purpose-built small animal practice located in the popular coastal town of Portishead. The practice has been designed with both pets and people in mind, featuring separate dog and cat waiting areas and wards to help minimise patient stress, three consulting rooms, a dedicated office space and a well-equipped colleague kitchen.

Lead by Liam, we’re building a practice where patient care comes first, colleagues support one another and everyone is encouraged to contribute ideas and help shape how we work.

    Our Team

You'll be joining a close-knit team of 2.5 vets and 2-2.5 RVNs, supported by a brilliant reception team and an experienced Deputy Practice Manager.

Liam our lead vet has over 14 years' experience, including many years in a Tier 3 hospital environment and time spent as a Clinical Director. Liam also holds a surgical certificate and has a real passion for surgery, teaching and supporting others.

As a nursing team, we want our RVNs to be able to use their skills fully. There is scope to carry out Schedule 3 procedures and we're keen to support anyone wanting to develop their interests and confidence further.

You'll never feel like you're working on your own here. We encourage open discussion of cases, sharing ideas and asking for help whenever it's needed. We also hold regular team meetings, so everyone stays involved in the continued development of the practice.

Our reception team are fantastic and always happy to help where they can, whether that's holding patients or supporting with bloods, allowing nurses to spend more time where they're needed most.

    The Role

This is a full-time position working:

    • 40 hours per week
    • 1 in 4 Saturdays (9am-4pm)
    • No out-of-hours

Our ideal set-up would be someone working full days, helping us make the most of our theatre and surgical caseload. However, we know that flexibility can be important and we're happy to discuss alternative working patterns for the right person.

    This could include:

    • School-hour working across five days
    • Flexible start and finish times
    • Other arrangements that work for both you and the practice

Above all, we're looking for the right person.

A typical day runs from 9am-7pm, giving you the chance to enjoy a varied nursing role including theatre, inpatient care, nurse consultations and Schedule 3 opportunities.

    What We're Looking For

We're happy to hear from RVNs at any stage of their career.

Whether you've recently qualified or are bringing years of experience, we'd love to meet someone who:

    • Enjoys working as part of a supportive team
    • Takes pride in delivering excellent patient care
    • Wants to fully utilise their nursing skills
    • Brings a positive attitude and enjoys building relationships with clients and colleagues

    In Return, We Offer

    • Salary up to £33,000 FTE, dependent on experience
    • No OOHs
    • 5.6 weeks holiday, increasing with length of service
    • Contributory pension scheme
    • Generous CPD allowance
    • Support and funding for further qualifications
    • Paid professional memberships
    • Cycle to Work scheme
    • Colleague reward hub with discounts including Pets at Home and Vets for Pets
    • Employee Assistance Programme
    • A genuinely supportive team environment
    • The opportunity to develop your skills and make the role your own
