About the role

Reporting to the Operational Regulatory Response Manager, the Operational Regulatory Response Lead plays a key role in coordinating pollution and compliance-related regulatory responses to Section 108 and Reg 61 requests from the Environment Agency.

The Operational Regulatory Response Lead is crucial in building confidence and trust with the Environment Agency and enabling them to carry out their duties. This role requires a proactive, organised and detail-focused individual with a strong understanding of environmental regulation and operational processes.

You'll work closely with administrative, operational and legal teams to coordinate responses to Environment Agency (EA) within expected deadlines. You will ensure that responses appropriately address the ask and are accurate, credible and consistent, following set governance procedures.

The Operational Regulatory Response Lead will track patterns, trends and changes in volume in requests from the Environment Agency and escalate any emerging risks, opportunities or resource needs to ensure that response standards can be maintained.

What will you be doing?

  • S108’s and R61’s response coordination

  • Setting response groups up for success with clear communication on requirements and deadlines

  • Working across the business to gather and coordinate requested information

  • Sense checking supplied information alongside subject matter experts

  • Taking a risk based approach to escalation

  • Creating consistency across responses with templates and standard working practices

  • Continuous improvement of processes based on feedback

  • Benchmarking and identification of best practice with other water companies

Data tracking and trend analysis

  • Structured capture of key information/data on requests

  • Analysis of trends, patterns and volumes

  • Corporate reporting and communication of regulatory risk

Building trust with our regulators and stakeholders

  • Communicating ahead of time where an extension is required or clarification is needed

  • Providing clear, well-structured and consistent responses

  • Adhering to agreed deadlines

  • Building credibility and trust through transparency

What does it take to be successful?

We're looking for someone who can build strong stakeholder relationships while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience working within environmental regulation or operational compliance

  • Experience of working to standards, governance processes, and quality assurance frameworks

  • Knowledge of Environment Agency processes, including S108 and R61 requests

  • Experience producing high-quality written reports, responses, and communications

  • Experience working collaboratively across operational and corporate teams

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to engage and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels

  • Strong influencing skills and ability to drive alignment towards common goals

  • Comfortable working in ambiguous situations while maintaining focus on key priorities

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines

  • Collaborative and proactive approach to problem-solving
