Job Description
The Role
To deliver a variety of site maintenance and recovery activities on both operational and non-operational land including grounds maintenance, vegetation management and removal from assets, soft landscaping, arboriculture works, contractor management and other minor building maintenance in line with the maintenance plan for each site. To ensure the site standards are upheld on our Water and Wastewater Treatment works and other land owned by UU including non-asset and asset areas for the quality, performance and safety standards of the company.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Carry out grounds maintenance, vegetation management, landscaping, recovery works and associated ad hoc tasks across multiple sites, including physically demanding outdoor work in hazardous environments.
- Operate, inspect and maintain a wide range of powered and non-powered plant, tools, equipment and vehicles, completing required training as new machinery is introduced.
- Complete operational and minor remedial works (e.g. fencing, flags, filter beds, pontoons) in line with competence, training and site requirements.
- Apply and handle pesticides, including invasive weed management, in compliance with regulations and best practice.
- Record completed work on corporate systems, identify site improvements, undertake seasonal/winter work and liaise closely with site staff.
- Adhere to all Health and Safety requirements, risk assessments, company policies and environmental standards.
- Support the Team Leader by contributing to new works, project delivery, training of new starters, cross-team collaboration and clear communication between management and operatives.
- Undertake any reasonable tasks as instructed by the line manager.
Skills & Experience
- Ability to demonstrate practical experience of a variety of maintenance activities including grounds maintenance, vegetation management, soft landscaping in an outdoor environment.
- Able to demonstrate practical experience in using a variety of Grounds and specialist machinery such as pedestrian mowers, strimmer’s, blowers hedge cutters, ride on mowers, tractors, Robots.
- Ability to work to schedules and have good time management skills.
- Able to communicate and build relationships with a range of both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to risk assess dynamically and understand Risk Assessments.
- Able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
- Full clean driving license and hold or be willing to work towards Class C if required.
- Ability to tow trailers and willingness to attend familiarisation training.
- Hold or be willing to work towards if required qualifications to apply Chemicals near water. (Formally PA6/PA6INJ/PA6W)
- Hold or be willing to work towards if required NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Manually Fed Woodchipper Operations qualification.
Desirable Qualifications
- City & Guilds / NVQ / Lantra qualification in agricultural and land-based industry
A full UK driving licence is required for this role
