Job Description
The role
Reporting to the Network Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for the effective day-to-day operation and maintenance of all Wastewater Network powered assets e.g. pumping stations, combined sewer overflows and detention tanks within a defined geographical area. You will ensure the smooth operation of assets minimising any impact on the customer and ensuring excellent customer service at all times. You will provide the first call response to reactive incidents, you will need to be pro-active and will be responsible for the efficient operation of Network Assets in your area. To achieve this you will need to maintain a close working relationship with other members of the network maintenance team and the Remote Monitoring Controllers. In addition you will work closely with other roles within the maintenance organisation and other departments within UU.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
Working as part of the Network Maintenance Team and allocated to a defined area you will be accountable for ensuring the day-to-day operation and optimisation of the Wastewater network mechanical and electrical assets (e.g. pumping stations, powered mechanical screens and detention tanks.) Undertaking both pro-active and reactive activities to ensure efficient asset operation you will also be accountable for:
- Reduce asset failures and prevent flooding or pollution incidents through proactive maintenance and root cause analysis.
- Carry out planned and reactive first-call maintenance on mechanical and electrical assets across the Wastewater Network.
- Manage asset failures efficiently, including interim solutions and timely return to service.
- Ensure full compliance with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Respond to customer issues, maintain contingency plans, and support investment prioritisation to improve network performance.
Technical Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role good information technology skills are essential together with the ability to understand United Utilities systems and their capabilities and limitations. You will need good interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers and as you will often be working alone you will need to be capable of using your own initiative and have a flexible approach to highly varied workloads. You will also need:
- Good time management - able to work to agreed deadlines and achieve personal objectives.
- Good analytical and problem solving skills.
- Good team working skills.
- Ability to co-ordinate framework contractors in delivering small projects and remedial works.
- Full UK driving license.
Although not essential it would be beneficial if you were able to demonstrate basic maintenance understanding of the operation of powered assets, and a general understanding of wastewater network activities. It would also be beneficial if you were able to demonstrate:
- An understanding of Wastewater regulatory requirements.
- Minimum of 5 GCSE's (or equivalent) A – C (including Maths and English)
