Job Description

United Utilities are looking for an ambitious, high energy Maintenance Team Leader to join our Bioresources Lancashire team and take charge of the performance, resilience, and future of critical assets across the region.

This is a dynamic, fast-moving role where no two days are the same. You will lead a skilled team of electrical and mechanical field service engineers, owning both reactive and planned maintenance activity and driving real operational impact. Working across multiple sites in Blackburn and Lancashire, you will need a full UK driving licence and the flexibility to travel as you lead from the front. This is your chance to step into a visible leadership role where you set the pace, raise standards, take initiative, and build a culture that thrives on accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and coordinate day to day maintenance operations across multiple sites, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently, and to high standards
  • Supervise field engineers and contractors, maintaining full compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements while setting clear expectations through a strong leadership presence
  • Drive a proactive maintenance culture, embedding planned and predictive approaches that minimise downtime and optimise asset performance
  • Investigate equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement long term solutions that enhance reliability and support biogas generation targets
  • Collaborate closely with operational and planning teams to align resources with changing business priorities across the region
  • Influence capital projects to ensure assets are designed with maintainability, efficiency, and future performance in mind
  • Monitor contractor performance, manage service contracts, and ensure delivery consistently meets KPIs and service standards

Skills and Experience

  • Background in maintenance, engineering, or planning, or strong leadership experience within a comparable technical environment
  • Solid understanding of planned, preventative, and predictive maintenance systems
  • A proactive, solutions focused mindset with the ability to analyse data and drive improvements in a fast-moving environment
  • Demonstrated success in improving team performance, productivity, and asset reliability while managing performance where standards fall short
  • Strong technical capability with practical knowledge of fault finding and overseeing complex repairs
  • Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and deliver maintenance safely, on time, and within cost and quality expectations
  • Clear and confident communicator who builds strong relationships with teams, stakeholders, and external partners

You will thrive in this role if you are a visible and hands on leader who takes ownership, works on your own initiative, and builds trust and confidence within your team while operating across multiple operational sites in the Blackburn and Lancashire area.

Why This Role

This is an opportunity to lead from the front within a critical part of United Utilities’ Bioresources operation. You will shape how maintenance is delivered, develop a high performing engineering team, and directly contribute to the efficiency and sustainability of essential infrastructure.
