Job Description
ESG Reporting and Improvement Lead | Hybrid | Warrington
At United Utilities, sustainability is a critical part of how we deliver long term value for our customers, communities and the environment. We're looking for an ambitious and passionate ESG Reporting and Improvement Lead to help shape and drive our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) agenda across the business. This is a highly visible role where you'll combine strategic thinking, data driven insight and stakeholder influence to ensure we're continuously improving our sustainability performance and delivering meaningful change.
Working within the Sustainability Team in Asset Management, you'll be part of a team that sits alongside and collaborates closely with our Carbon and Resilience functions. Together, you'll play a key role in helping United Utilities provide great water for a stronger, greener and healthier North West.
We're looking for someone who is closely connected to the evolving ESG landscape, bringing fresh insight, identifying emerging trends and opportunities, and working with senior leaders to turn ambition into action. You'll be instrumental in shaping strategy, influencing decision makers and driving improvements that make a real difference for our customers, communities and the environment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Drive organisation wide engagement and cultural change, embedding sustainability and responsible business practices across United Utilities while providing effective ESG governance through the Board-level ESG Committee and wider business.
- Own and deliver the ESG improvement plan, identifying priority areas for enhancement and influencing executives and senior leaders to champion initiatives that strengthen ESG performance and drive meaningful change.
- Lead United Utilities' ESG reporting approach, ensuring disclosures align with corporate strategy, demonstrate value for stakeholders and showcase progress against our sustainability ambitions.
- Support the delivery of our corporate ESG strategy, helping to shape priorities and translate emerging ESG trends, risks and opportunities into meaningful business action.
- Strengthen ESG data governance, reporting processes and performance measurement, ensuring robust insight supports strategic decision making and continuous improvement.
- Act as a trusted ESG leader, staying ahead of evolving regulations, industry developments and best practice to help United Utilities maintain its position as a leading sustainable business.
What You'll Bring
- Strong knowledge of ESG reporting, sustainability performance measurement and the environmental, social and governance issues shaping today's business landscape.
- Understanding of ESG ratings, indices and external benchmarking frameworks, with an appreciation of how leading organisations use them to drive performance, transparency and reputation.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, identify opportunities and translate insights into strategic recommendations and measurable improvements.
- Strong stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills, with the confidence to engage executives, senior leaders and colleagues across the organisation.
Highly organised and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, drive projects forward, take ownership of outcomes and bring genuine enthusiasm for sustainability and continuous improvement.
Why This Role
This is an opportunity to build a highly visible ESG career within one of the UK's largest infrastructure organisations, where you'll have direct access to senior leaders and the ability to influence decision making at a strategic level.
You'll develop a deep understanding of how sustainability is embedded within a complex business, shaping everything from reporting and governance to long term performance and business strategy. Working alongside specialists across sustainability, carbon and resilience, you'll broaden your expertise while helping to drive meaningful improvements that deliver real value for customers, communities and the environment.
You'll see the impact of your work firsthand, from strengthening ESG performance and shaping strategy to enhancing transparency and driving improvements that benefit customers, communities and the environment across the North West.
