Job Description

The Role

Are you an experienced analyst who loves getting beneath the surface of data to understand what it’s really telling you?

We’re looking for a Business Analyst to join our Wastewater Strategy team, playing a key role in turning complex operational and performance data into meaningful insight that helps shape decisions across our wastewater network.

This is much more than simply presenting data or creating dashboards. You’ll work with large and sometimes complex datasets, interrogating and manipulating information to identify trends, uncover potential issues and answer specific business questions. From analysing flooding, blockage and incident performance to exploring regulatory measures and geospatial information, you’ll help us understand not just what is happening, but why.

You’ll take complex analysis and translate it into clear, compelling insight for a range of stakeholders, including senior leaders, helping them understand performance, identify areas of focus and make informed decisions.

What you'll be doing

  • Analysing and interrogating large datasets to identify trends, patterns and actionable insights.
  • Investigating complex business questions and determining the most effective analytical approach.
  • Exploring data from different perspectives to uncover the story behind the numbers.
  • Producing meaningful analysis that supports operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Managing and manipulating data using Excel and other analytical tools.
  • Working with GIS and geospatial data to develop insights and visualise information.
  • Responding to a variety of analytical requests from stakeholders across the business.
  • Presenting findings in a clear and accessible way for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Supporting the continuous improvement of data quality, reporting and analytical methodologies.
  • Developing an understanding of the wastewater network and operational assets to enhance analysis and insight generation.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve business performance, efficiency and customer outcomes through insight-led recommendations.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong analytical skills, with demonstrable experience of interrogating and manipulating large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, issues and meaningful insights.
  • A full UK driving licence, with the ability to travel to operational sites across the North West when required.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience using data to answer complex or specific business questions.
  • Experience using GIS and working with geospatial data to support analysis and decision-making.
  • Ability to go beyond reporting and visualisation, critically analysing information and drawing evidence-based conclusions from data.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to take an analytical question or problem and independently determine the most appropriate approach.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to translate complex analysis into clear, concise and meaningful insight for different audiences, including senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple and varied analytical requests, prioritising effectively in a fast-moving environment.

Given the high level of interest we expect for this role, please ensure your application clearly evidences the skills, experience and achievements that directly align with the requirements outlined above.

Benefits

  • A generous annual leave package of 26 days, which increases to 30 days after four years of service (increases one day per year), in addition to 8 bank holidays
  • A competitive pension scheme with up to 14% employer contribution, 21% combined, and life cover
  • Up to 7.5% performance-related bonus scheme, as well as recognition awards for outstanding achievements
  • A comprehensive healthcare plan through our company-funded scheme
  • MyGymDiscounts - gym and wellness benefit that offers up to 25% off on gym memberships and digital fitness subscriptions
