The Role:
To lead and inspire a team of Catchment Controllers to operate & manage a wide-range of raw water assets ensuring that all reservoirs are operated within legal guidelines and raw water is provided into the treatment process safely and in line with regulatory best-practice. In addition to ensure that Rangering activities at our owned sites are undertaken with particular focus on ensuring that activities are in line with the protection of Water Quality and the delivery of excellent customer service
To performance manage their team and the assets within the production area to ensure a safe, efficient and compliant outcome.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Lead and manage the operation, maintenance, and performance of raw water assets (reservoirs, dams, and abstraction systems) within a regulated environment
- Ensure full regulatory compliance, including reservoir safety, emergency planning, and Critical National Infrastructure requirements
- Oversee budgets and delivery of operational, capital, and maintenance plans, balancing cost, efficiency, and service performance
- Drive asset performance, continuous improvement, and proactive maintenance while ensuring high health & safety standards
- Provide strong leadership by managing teams, developing skills, collaborating across departments, and maintaining key internal and external stakeholder relationships
What We Are Looking For:
- Managerial and leadership skills are critical for this role to deliver performance through a team of people responsible for raw water production assets along with access & recreation assets & land. The ability to motivate a team and deliver high performance across a 24/7 service is fundamental to this role
- Experience of managing operational budgets and delivering innovative solutions to improve the sustainable operating cost of a production type operation
- Good understanding of operations and maintenance strategies and preferably have some production line experience and to be able to work in a fast moving and dynamic environment
- Effective communication skills able to liaise with internal and external stakeholders
- Education, ideally to HNC level (or equivalent) and an experienced line manager in a process or maintenance environment
- A good level understanding of the regulatory and legislative framework surrounding the operation and maintenance of reservoirs along with compensation & abstraction assets
- Analytical skills and the ability to drive solutions to a wide range of technical and managerial problems, whilst also knowing when to stop and ask for help from support colleagues
- Familiar with the United Utilities Rural Framework contracts and a strong understanding of procuring and managing contractors to deliver activities on United Utilities estates
