Systems Engineer II – Infrastructure - Backup and Storage
Job Description
As a Systems Engineer II within the Booker Technology Infrastructure team, you’ll play a key role in managing our core IT systems across backup and storage. You’ll help ensure our platforms are reliable, secure and aligned to business needs—today and in the future.
Working with a mix of internal colleagues and third-party partners, you’ll turn strategy into practical delivery—balancing day-to-day operations with longer-term planning. From maintaining system performance to supporting projects and future roadmaps, you’ll help us continuously improve how we operate.
You’ll also support stakeholder engagement, service reporting, and resilience testing (including Disaster Recovery and Total Loss scenarios), helping ensure we’re always prepared and continuously improving.
- Manage and maintain systems: Configure, monitor and optimise backup and storage platforms, including cloud and on-premise solutions
- Support delivery through partners: Oversee and guide third-party engineering resource to deliver strong technical outcomes
- Ensure operational excellence: Maintain performance, availability, security and patching across your infrastructure estate
- Drive projects forward: Plan and deliver infrastructure upgrades, enhancements and new implementations
- Manage incidents and change: Respond to issues, minimise disruption and ensure robust change control processes
- Governance and documentation: Maintain clear documentation, reporting and alignment with budgets and business objectives
- Security and compliance: Uphold data protection, security standards and system integrity
- Stakeholder collaboration: Build strong relationships to identify improvements and support business growth
- Experience working in an infrastructure or systems engineering role, ideally focused on backup and storage
- Knowledge of backup technologies (e.g. NetBackup, Veeam, Cohesity) and cloud storage solutions such as Azure, including resilience and tiering
- A solid understanding of infrastructure architecture and how systems integrate
- Experience managing incidents, recovery processes, and service continuity (including Disaster Recovery)
- Strong governance, planning, and budget management skills
- Confidence working with third-party vendors and managing external resources
- Great communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders
- A thoughtful, calm approach to problem-solving, even in high-pressure situations
- A passion for stability, security and continuous improvement
- The ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on delivery
