Supply Chain Connect Technology area

The purpose of Connect Platform is to enable seamless collaboration between Tesco’s suppliers and supply chain operations colleagues. The platform is a strategic differentiator for Tesco and one that is critical to Tesco’s supply chain operations. The Connect platform enables Tesco to share forecast and orders with suppliers and, enables suppliers to ensure uninterrupted deliveries. The platform also enables Tesco colleagues to validate orders and respond to supply volatility.

The Connect platform will continue to evolve and improve based on the changing needs of Tesco’s customers and suppliers. Building a future proof robust platform for supplier collaboration is critical to Tesco’s future. It is therefore critical for the Lead Product Manager to continuously collaborate and work with the consumers who use the platform to improve the customer journey and platform features.

As a Lead Product Manager for Connect, you will be reporting into the Head of Product - Supply Chain. You will lead a team of talented Product Managers in the Connect Platform team will report into you. As master practitioner of Product Management, you are responsible for ensuring that your team contains the product management resources and skills required to ensure you can successfully execute the strategy and roadmap for your portfolio of products.

Whilst specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business, the following provides an overview of the Lead Product Manager’s role, key responsibilities and measures:

  • Have complete ownership of a complex engineering platform component involving multiple internal/external stakeholders and drive the Product strategy and execution for that Product.

  • Formulate the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Product you own and work with stakeholders across teams to align the strategic priorities, dependencies and roadmap.

  • Responsible for identifying the key measures of success (OKRs) and the resulting performance/adoption of the product(s).

  • Leverage your domain knowledge in the area of Forecasting & Supplier Ordering to assess new opportunities (gathering ideas, research, carrying out analysis, refining and prioritising new requirements).

  • Plan and co-ordinate significant product efforts that have dependencies on multiple products and delivery teams.

  • Set clear goals and KPIs for your team members and periodically review all the KPIs owned by the team spanning across multiple products and provide feedback on improving those

  • Handle conflicting priorities well, communicate clearly and understand how to drive a high level of focus and excellence with a strong, talented and opinionated team.

  • Contribute in capability and capacity planning to Product Management for your own Product area to ensure capacity to drive work.

  • Build and nurture a great team of Product Managers for your Product, based on the business needs, strategic priorities assigned, and level of focus required.

  • Carry out people routines for direct reports and develop talented people.

  • Identify and remove impediments to ensure your team is successful in delivering the committed deliverables.

  • Motivate the team by ensuring they have fulfilling roles, proper rewards and recognition strategies.

  • Conduct fair performance appraisals and provide constructive feedback for your team.

  • Collaborate with Head of Product to understand future demand and direction of your product.

  • Be responsible for achieving or exceeding agreed product KPIs improvements across all the products owned/ managed by your team

  • Lead discovery work around minimum viable products (MVP) for any new feature, collaborating with delivery teams and internal / external stakeholders to prototype and validating MVPs.

  • Help the team in breaking down complex pieces of work and create epics and stories to break down large programmes into smaller, deliverable chunks of value that can be delivered faster.

  • Be accountable for the performance / adoption of the Products and work towards increasing the customer base.

Qualifications

Skills and Experience

  • You’ll need to have demonstrated experience of:

  • Articulating a complex product strategy in terms of consumer and business value.

  • Experience and understanding of agile methodologies, ceremonies and an appreciation and understanding of technology

  • Have proven success in leading a team of highly talented and opinionated product managers and taken multiple ideas from conception to go-live, through standard software product development lifecycle and got measurable success across defined KPIs.

  • Experienced in capacity planning, forecasting and working with senior stakeholders to understand future demands and align allocation/ hiring.

  • Knowledge of underlying business processes and systems.

  • Efficient in stakeholder management and has ability to steer the team in the right direction by putting best team members in the most value generating Products/ Business priorities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills - you must be able to articulate complex concepts to a diverse audience.

  • Experience managing work completed from external agencies to ensure the highest standards are met.

  • Having proven success in working on unstructured problems, defining hypothesis, creating MVPs, running experiments and analysing results to drive data-driven decisions.

  • Product management best practice and methodologies and strong technical acumen.

  • Technical competence to influence and understand the solution context and approach and aid engineering in estimating the complexity of work being requested.

  • Understanding the impact tech debt is causing, and the value tech upgrades can bring in, and can hold objective conversations with your technology counterparts to prioritize it during any sprint.

  • Prioritising and decision-making skills, demonstrating experience of having made good decisions / judgements around business priorities and resource allocation.

  • Prior Experience of working as a Lead or Senior Product Manager in Retail Forecasting or Ordering is advantageous

  • Familiarity working with multi-cultural, geographically distributed teams

  • Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills to all levels of seniority and disciplines within the organisation.

  • Whilst being personally robust and willing to challenge the status quo, you will work closely with other team members and must be able to bring people on a journey with you.
