Job Description
Tesco’s Scan As You Shop solution is an in-store experience that lets customers build a virtual basket on a handheld device during their shopping journey so that they can keep a close eye on their budget and skip the queues at checkout. Since late 2021, we’ve brought the solution entirely in house, and we’re now live in over 850 stores across the UK and the Republic of Ireland, with plans to move into other regions. We’re also developing a new in-store solution for large kiosk screens designed to help customers navigate product ranges in the stores.
The engineering team owns the UI applications (built on Android OS), a small backend service, and a few other technology components that support the solution. All the engineers in the team ultimately take ownership of both the frontend and backend systems within the domain. As the solution grows, we need to take care of the system as a platform, with all the complexities that involves.
We’re looking for a new team member, preferably with a background in Android development, that can help us evolve and scale our systems as we navigate a wide range of challenges in the context of store technology.
We’re a friendly team that takes collaboration and agility seriously, looking for the right person to help us move our ecosystem forward.
· Developing high-quality code that can lead to rapid delivery, following standard methodologies for continuous integration and delivery
· Supporting production systems, resolving incidents, and performing root cause analysis
· Leading discussions on the design of the system and understanding the domain well enough to work with Product Managers to drive value
· Working efficiently with partners across the organisation to communicate and translate business needs into improvements in the product
- Experience with Kotlin
- Experience working in a collaborative team
- A background in Android development (ideally)
You might know us as a supermarket, technology company or even for our award-winning mobile network. Truth is, we’re all of those things, and much more. Our colleagues work with one goal in mind, helping to make every day a little better for our customers, colleagues and communities all over the world. No two customers are the same, neither are our colleagues. At Tesco, we champion a balance that lets you thrive both in and out of work. Spend 60% of your week collaborating with colleagues at our office locations or local sites and the rest remotely. Whether you're just kicking off your career, juggling passions, or navigating big life events, we're here to support you. We always welcome a conversation about flexible working, so talk to us throughout your application about how we can support. We're proud to be an accredited Disability Confident Leader, where everyone’s welcome. That’s why we commit to providing a fully inclusive and accessible recruitment process.
