PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
Join an innovative, collaborative development environment and help build secure data access and connectivity capabilities as part of SAP's Big Data Fabric Services (BDFS).We are looking for a Platform Operations Engineer who can contribute across operability, onboarding and technical problem-solving in broader BDFS context. We do not work as data scientists analyzing or extracting data directly. We build the platform capabilities that make this possible.
THE PRODUCT
BDFS portfolio enables SAP Lines of Business and customers to enter the world of big data more easily. BDFS delivers platform capabilities such as Apache Spark as a service, multi-language data processing on Kubernetes-based infrastructure, and access to hyperscale-agnostic data sources using the Delta Sharing protocol on top of the HANA Data Lake File Service (HDLFS).
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As a Platform Operations Engineer, you will be the fist point of contact for SAP line of business (LoBs) and external customers who use BDFS services. You will help our customers to resolve issues and onboard on our services. This role combines technical troubleshooting with clear communication, ensuring internal and external customers can stay productive and compliant. Beyond reactive support, you will contribute to building a scalable support ecosystem, identifying recurring issues, feeding insights back to the engineering team and improving internal processes.
Key tasks include:
- Triage and issue managementHandling of service requests
- Service onboarding and enablement
- Monitor support channels and ensure timely, high-quality responses to inquiries
- Root cause analysis process orchestration
- SLO/SLA validation and reporting
- CI/CD pipeline maintenance and optimization
- Actively interaction with engineering teams
WHAT YOU BRING
Required skills
- Bachelor's degree in any of the following areas: Computer Science, Systems Analysis, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering.
- Advanced or fluent English.
- Familiarity with any of the following programming languages: Java, Python, Go and/or Rust.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills — ability to reproduce issues, read logs, and trace problems across tool components
Familiarity with modern AI technologies is desirable, including:
- Basic understanding of generative AI tooling and its role in software developmentAwareness of concepts such as MCP, agent skills, and AI-assisted workflows
- Ability to troubleshoot complex software issues leveraging technical and product skills.
- Ability to quickly learn new areas of knowledge.
- Familiarity with cloud-native solutions.
- Familiarity with observability practices including metrics, tracing, health checks, alerting, and OpenTelemetry.

The Big Data Fabric Services team is responsible for:
- Extend and complete the SAP Data Platform with big data technologies to support different SAP Lines of Business.
- Leverage Apache Spark and object store technology to provide scalable and cost-effective computing and storage services for big data ingestion, processing, and sharing.
- Integrate into SAP BTP and HANA Cloud & Data Lakehouse to offer a unified development and deployment experience for different SAP Lines of Business.
- Assure multi-tenancy and secure data processing.
- Build capabilities for secure partner connectivity and governed access to SAP business data.
