About the team

The PlusOne Network Engineering Organization is a part of Global Cloud Infrastructure and Deliver Organization. The department is providing stable and reliable network connectivity, switching, routing, and WAN. Additionally, we are responsible for the connectivity inside and outside of SAP (including Hyperscalers) for all LoBs consuming internal cloud infrastructure services. We therefore oversee the "connect" layer of GCID.

What you´ll do

1. Network Architecture & Design:
   • Design end-to-end WAN solutions, ensuring seamless connectivity between data centers, remote sites, and cloud environments.
   • Architect load balancing solutions using technologies such as F5, Citrix ADC, NGINX, and AWS ELB to optimize application delivery.
   • Develop network blueprints, high-level design (HLD), and low-level design (LLD) documentation to align with business objectives and scalability requirements.
2. Network Automation & Scripting:
   • Implement network automation frameworks using Python, Ansible, Terraform, or other Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
   • Develop custom scripts for network configuration management, monitoring, and incident response.
   • Integrate automated processes for network deployments, updates, and incident recovery.
3. Load Balancer Strategy & Optimization:
   • Design, configure, and maintain load balancers to distribute application traffic efficiently and ensure high availability.
   • Implement advanced load balancing techniques, including SSL offloading, health checks, and content routing.
   • Analyze traffic patterns to identify performance bottlenecks and recommend optimization strategies.
4. Network Security & Compliance:
   • Design secure network architectures, incorporating firewalls, VPNs, and network segmentation to mitigate security risks.
   • Collaborate with security teams to align network design with regulatory frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, and PCI-DSS.
   • Implement DDoS protection, data encryption, and traffic filtering to safeguard critical assets.
5. Performance Analysis & Troubleshooting:
   • Monitor network performance metrics, identify latency issues, and implement corrective actions.
   • Develop diagnostic scripts to streamline troubleshooting and incident response processes.
   • Conduct root cause analysis for network incidents and recommend long-term fixes.
6. Collaboration & Cross-Functional Engagement:
   • Partner with DevOps, cloud engineering, and application development teams to align network architecture with evolving application needs.
   • Provide architectural guidance for new projects, ensuring network scalability and redundancy.
   • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership in network design and automation practices.

What you bring

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or related field.
• Experience: 8+ years in network architecture, WAN design, and load balancing.
• Technical Expertise:
  • WAN protocols: BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VXLAN, IPSEC.
  • Load balancing: F5, NGINX, AWS ELB, Citrix ADC.
  • Coding/Scripting: Python, Ansible, Terraform, Bash.
  • Automation: Infrastructure as Code (IaC), DevOps integration.
• Certifications (Preferred): CCIE, F5-CTS, AWS Certified Advanced Networking, Cisco DevNet, or equivalent.
• Soft Skills: Excellent communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

Preferred Experience:

• Experience in hybrid cloud environments (On-Premise, AWS, Azure, GCP).
• WAN design and implementation.
• Network telemetry and performance optimization.
• Development of network-as-code frameworks for large-scale infrastructure.
