ABOUT THE TEAM
SAP Concur is the market leader in integrated travel, expense, and invoice management, serving millions of users worldwide.
The Concur Spend Admin engineering team owns the full administration lifecycle of the Concur Spend platform — admin UI, onboarding, entity lifecycle management, and partner and implementation team support. We build the tools that administrators use to configure, monitor, and optimize their expense programs and that SAP uses to provision and manage the lifecycle of tenants. The stack includes React frontends, Java and Node.js microservices, and AI features that use large language models to assist administrators. We ship to production frequently and operate what we build.
We are building a new team in São Leopoldo, RS, Brazil. This is a ground-floor opportunity to shape the culture and practices of a team from day one.
THE ROLE
As a Development Expert on the Concur Spend team in São Leopoldo, you will provide technical leadership on the hardest problems the team faces. You will be responsible for concept, design, and implementation of complex product areas — and for defining the technical direction that others follow.
Our technical challenges span multi-model AI integration, event-driven microservice architectures, data platforms at scale, and high-availability systems. You would lead the technical approach on problems like these, define deliverables, and elevate engineering practices across the team. We are looking for someone who moves easily into new topics and constantly raises the bar.
EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS
- Lead the technical design and implementation of complex product features and systems
- Define deliverables and provide advice on solutions that affect future design decisions
- Establish state-of-the-art engineering practices in the team and beyond
- Resolve complex issues and support others in resolving theirs
- Work across the full stack: React/TypeScript frontends, Java/Spring Boot and Node.js services, Python AI backends, AWS infrastructure, and data platform
- Contribute to architectural decisions on AI integration patterns, including model selection, prompt design, evaluation, and reliability
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues
- Collaborate with team members in Vancouver, Bellevue, and São Leopoldo across time zone.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCES AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or a related technical field
- The ability to solve technical computer problems by writing actual working code; this is very much a hands-on position
- Deep experience across multiple areas of the technology stack
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and define technical direction
- The ability to not just point out a problem, but to understand architectures and systems enough to drive the solution
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCES AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong programming skills across multiple languages (Java, TypeScript, Python)
- Experience designing and building systems that integrate with LLMs or other AI/ML services
- Experience with prompt engineering, model evaluation, RAG patterns, or vector search
- Deep experience with AWS (EKS, S3, DynamoDB, Glue, Athena), Kubernetes, and service mesh (Istio)
- Experience with data engineering: ETL pipelines, data lakes, SQL analytics at scale
- Experience with event-driven architectures, workflow engines (Temporal), or distributed systems
- Understanding of security, performance engineering, and observability in production systems
- Evidence of excellence in some capacity (could be via personal projects, open source contributions, recognized expertise in a domain, etc.)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Deep professional experience in developing complex software, ideally across several technology domains. Recognized internally or externally as a subject matter expert in at least one area.
