ABOUT THE TEAM

SAP Concur is the market leader in integrated travel, expense, and invoice management, serving millions of users worldwide.

The Concur Spend Admin engineering team owns the full administration lifecycle of the Concur Spend platform — admin UI, onboarding, entity lifecycle management, and partner and implementation team support. We build the tools that administrators use to configure, monitor, and optimize their expense programs and that SAP uses to provision and manage the lifecycle of tenants. Our stack includes React and TypeScript frontends; Java/Spring Boot and Node.js services; Python services for AI use cases; and AWS and Kubernetes infrastructure. We ship to production frequently, operate what we build, and use AI coding tools (including Claude Code) daily across the team.

We are building a new team in São Leopoldo, RS, Brazil. This is a ground-floor opportunity to build a team from scratch — hiring, establishing practices, and setting the culture for what will become a core part of our global engineering organization.

THE ROLE

As a Development Manager on the Concur Spend Admin team in São Leopoldo, you will be a people manager and a technical contributor. In our team, development managers stay close to the code — checking in code regularly, participating in design discussions, working on deployments, and handling production issues alongside hiring, coaching, and growing a team of developers.

This role is for someone who believes a manager cannot be successful unless their team is successful — and who demonstrates that by being technically excellent, sharing information freely, and creating an environment where people grow.

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS

  • Hire, coach, retain, and develop engineers — one-on-ones, performance management, career development
  • Build the São Leopoldo team — recruit strong engineers, establish practices, set the culture
  • Contribute production-quality code regularly
  • Lead features when appropriate
  • Ensure sustainable operational practices, staffing, training, and escalation for the team's services
  • Participate in product discovery alongside Product Management, UX, and customers
  • Use telemetry and usage data to inform roadmap planning
  • Ensure timely delivery on commitments
  • Collaborate with team members in Vancouver, Bellevue, and São Leopoldo across time zones

REQUIRED EXPERIENCES AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • The ability to solve technical problems by writing actual working code; this is very much a hands-on position
  • Experience managing or formally leading software engineers, including coaching, performance feedback, and delivery planning
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCES AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong programming skills in one or more of Java, TypeScript, and Python
  • Experience with React and Redux
  • Experience with Spring Boot and/or Node.js/Express
  • Experience with AWS and Kubernetes
  • Experience with AI/ML integration in production systems (LLM APIs, prompt engineering, model evaluation)
  • Experience with SQL databases (SQL Server, MySQL)
  • Experience with CI/CD and automated testing
  • Experience with Temporal or similar workflow orchestration engines
  • Strong product judgment and commitment to a high-quality user experience
  • Evidence of excellence in some capacity (could be via personal projects, exceptional success in some endeavor, etc.)

WORK EXPERIENCE

Experience managing or leading software engineers in a software company. Combined with hands-on development experience.
