The Opportunity

This is more than a development role; it's an opportunity to build the future of legal and commercial technology from the ground up. As a Senior AI Developer, you will be the technical cornerstone for our Contracting AI initiatives. You will architect and build a suite of AI agents, intelligent data products, and innovative use cases that will define our platform. You will work with a rich, complex dataset of legal documents and collaborate closely with product managers, legal experts, and other engineers to solve high-impact problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • AI Agent Development: Design, build, and deploy sophisticated AI agents for tasks such as:
    • Contract Review & Analysis: Agents that can read contracts, identify key clauses, extract obligations, and flag non-standard terms or risks.
    • Negotiation Assistance: Agents that provide real-time suggestions, fallback positions, and data-driven arguments during contract negotiations.
    • Compliance & Obligation Tracking: Agents that monitor contract portfolios for key dates, renewal notices, and compliance requirements.
  • Data Product Creation: Transform unstructured contract text into valuable, structured data products. This includes:
    • Developing robust data extraction pipelines using a combination of LLMs, traditional NLP (NER, text classification), and rule-based systems.
    • Creating a searchable, version-controlled "Clause Library" from thousands of historical contracts.
    • Building a "Risk Dashboard" by quantifying and aggregating risk factors across the entire contract lifecycle.
  • Architecting AI Systems: Lead the technical design of our AI services, with a focus on Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) in alignment with our architecture and domain experts.
    • Design and optimize vector databases and semantic search systems to ensure our AI agents are grounded in accurate, relevant contract data.
    • Develop and fine-tune LLMs and other models for domain-specific tasks.
    • Implement robust evaluation frameworks to measure and improve model performance, accuracy, and reliability.
  • Strategy & Innovation:
    • Stay at the forefront of AI research, particularly in LLMs, agentic workflows, and NLP, and champion the adoption of new technologies and methodologies.
    • Partner with product leadership to identify and prototype new AI-driven use cases for the contracting domain.
  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship:
    • Set high standards for code quality, system design, and MLOps practices within the team.
    • Mentor junior developers, conduct code reviews, and foster a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.
    • Lead end-to-end projects from conceptualization and prototyping to production deployment and maintenance.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in software development, with at least 3+ years focused on building and deploying machine learning or AI systems in a production environment.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Expert-level proficiency in Python.
    • Deep, hands-on experience with modern AI/ML frameworks and libraries (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face Transformers, scikit-learn).
    • Proven experience building solutions with Large Language Models (LLMs) and related frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex).
    • Strong understanding and practical application of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), including vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Weaviate, Chroma) and semantic search.
  • Software Engineering Foundation:
    • Strong experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs.
    • Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and their AI/ML services (e.g., SageMaker, Vertex AI, Azure Machine Learning).
    • Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Problem Solving: A proven track record of taking ambiguous business problems, translating them into technical requirements, and delivering effective, end-to-end AI solutions.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves)

  • Domain Knowledge: Experience in Legal Tech, Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM), procurement, or working directly with legal/contract data is a significant plus.
  • Advanced NLP: Experience with advanced NLP techniques such as Named Entity Recognition (NER), relation extraction, and text summarization in a commercial setting.
  • MLOps: Hands-on experience with MLOps principles and tools for model versioning, automated training/deployment, and monitoring (e.g., MLflow, Kubeflow, DVC).
  • Academic Background: MS or PhD in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • Leadership: Experience acting as a tech lead or mentoring other engineers.
