Remuneration: This role is voluntary, but reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.

The Museum of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society exists:

  • to support the aims and objectives of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, in particular to “provide access to the profession’s heritage for members and the public”.
  • to help promote the Society and support its advocacy of pharmacy in Great Britain.
  • to collect, safeguard and make accessible archives, material evidence, artworks and associated information relating to the history of pharmacy as practised in Great Britain.
  • to enable public and professional appreciation, learning and enjoyment of artefacts and archives associated with that history.

The RPS Museum is looking for two volunteers who can support our work to manage our collection of 40,000 objects. This work includes:

  • Photographing and Scanning the Collection.
  • Adding and updating records in our Collection Management System.
  • Auditing the Collection and updating the Audit Records.

You are:

  • Interested in the RPS Museum collections or pharmacy history.
  • Able to use a camera or willing to learn.
  • Good at paying attention to detail.
  • Confident using Microsoft Excel or willing to learn.
  • Willing to learn how to use cataloguing system Modes Complete.
  • Comfortable working in 66 East Smithfield.

This opportunity is based in the Museum at 66-68 East Smithfield, London E1W 1AW.

Volunteers will be supervised by the Museum Manager, and it is recommended that volunteers work one day a week, but please outline preferred availability in your application.
