Job Description

Role OVO-View

Team: OVO Solar & Heating

Location: Commutable to Bristol

Salary banding: £45,000 - £55,000

Experience: Mid-Level

Role Type: Full-Time, 12 month Fixed-Term contract

Reporting to: Head of Franchise, OVO Solar & Heating

Sponsorship: Unfortunately we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role.

This role in 3 words: Business builder, renewables geek, amazing with people

Top 3 qualities for this role: Communication, commercial acumen, technical compliance

Where you’ll work:

Depending on the needs of your business area, we expect hub based people to be in the office at least once a week, and to go to OVO Connection events in-person.

You’ll be field based and expected to travel to physically visit Franchisees in your territory regularly (ie travel away from home almost every week). You would ideally be based close to Bristol for easy access to Midlands, South Wales and Thames Valley. As such the territory you’ll cover will be the ‘middle’ of the UK, however, whilst we’re building the business, you may be expected to travel further afield from time to time.

Everyone belongs at OVO

At OVO, we are on a mission to solve one of humanity's biggest challenges, the climate crisis. And we know it takes all of us to change the world. That's why we need diverse people from all abilities, gender identities, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientations, life experiences and backgrounds to join us.

Teamworking for the planet

Everything we do here spins around Plan Zero. So, naturally, the team you’ll be joining plays a gigantic role in making that happen. Here’s how:

We’re currently building OVO’s decarbonisation business - OVO Solar & Heating. A franchise network of multi-capability renewables installers. Set up within the security of OVO, but given the freedom of a start-up.

We want to make a real dent in the renewables landscape in the UK and we firmly believe stitching together the best of local with the benefits of a big company is the way to do that.

This role probably won't be for everyone. You’ll have to be comfortable dealing with ambiguity, able to roll your sleeves up and get stuff done and be able to deal with a high degree of change.

This role in a nutshell:

In this role, you’ll be a blend of a Growth Advisor, Performance Manager and Confidante. Franchising is a super unique business model, where relationships truly are at the heart of everything. The better your relationships with franchisees, the better they’ll perform.

Don't worry if you don’t tick all of the boxes around criteria. We’re really focused on attitude over aptitude.

Your key outcomes will be:

Franchise Growth & Development

  • Serve as the primary operational support for franchisees, acting as a trusted advisor and mentor.
  • Guide franchisees in scaling their businesses, improving productivity, and maximizing customer satisfaction.

Business & Installation Operations

  • Ensure adherence to industry regulations, technical standards, and internal operating procedures for all renewable technologies offered (e.g. Solar PV, Battery, ASHP etc)
  • Help franchisees implement and refine processes for site surveys, system design, installation, and commissioning.
  • Help Franchisees build their businesses, including: organisational design and recruitment, Back Office operations, Front Office (marketing & sales) operations

Performance Management

  • Monitor KPIs including installation throughput, conversion rates, customer satisfaction, and profitability.
  • Responsible for the performance of the franchisees in your ‘patch’ and dovetail with required governance cadences
  • Support franchisees with budgeting, forecasting, and commercial decision-making (e.g., pricing strategies, supplier management).
  • Benchmark performance across the network and help underperforming franchisees identify and close performance gaps.

Communications & Alignment

  • Act as the key communication channel between the franchisor and franchisees, ensuring alignment on goals and initiatives.
  • Relay field intelligence and franchisee feedback to help shape central strategy, systems, and support services.
  • Play an active role in new product rollouts and technology updates across the franchise network.

You’ll be successful in this role at OVO if you have…

  • Proven experience in a field-based role supporting SME operators, ideally within franchising or trade-based industries.
  • Background in or familiarity with renewable energy technologies (especially Solar PV, batteries, heat pumps, EV charging).
  • Strong commercial acumen and experience supporting business owners in sales growth and operational improvement
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong coaching and mentoring approach.
  • Experience working with KPIs, financials, and business planning tools.
  • Solid understanding of technical compliance, installation workflows, and the renewables customer journey.
  • Ability to manage a geographically dispersed network of franchisees with autonomy and initiative.
  • Understanding of UK renewables regulations (e.g., MCS, RECC, DNO, G98/G99 compliance etc).
