Claims Risk & Governance Assistant
Job Description
Claims Risk & Governance Assistant
- Hands on exposure to risk, controls and governance within Claims
- Opportunity to build assurance skills and work with data, MI and stakeholders
- Hybrid role with 80% homeworking and 20% in Stratford-upon-Avon
About the role
We have an exciting opportunity available for a Claims Risk & Governance Assistant to join our Head Office Claims function in Stratford-upon-Avon. The role supports the delivery of a robust and consistently applied control and governance environment across Claims, ensuring risks are identified, monitored and escalated in line with the Group Operational Risk Framework.
This is a varied role offering strong exposure to operational risk, controls testing and governance activity. You will support control testing and assurance activity, including recording and evidencing control outputs, reviewing MI, and monitoring quality review volumes and completion against agreed targets.
You will also support the monitoring of actions arising from risk reviews, chase completion of mandatory activity such as e-learning, and escalate issues where required. Where control weaknesses are identified, you will assist with basic data analysis and trend identification to support recommendations and agreed actions.
The role involves regular engagement with stakeholders across Claims, compiling and communicating audit, risk and control information, and liaising with Head Office, regional and project teams on risk identification and issue management.
This is a fantastic opportunity to build experience in risk, governance and assurance within a complex operational environment.
About you
With a positive, proactive and organised approach, you will be comfortable working with data, controls and evidence, and have a keen eye for detail. You are likely to enjoy working in a structured environment, ensuring things are completed accurately, on time and in line with agreed standards.
You will be able to demonstrate a mix of technical and non-technical skills, including:
- Knowledge of risk identification and assessment techniques, with an understanding of how controls are designed, tested and evidenced
- Experience of audit, assurance, quality or governance activity, including selecting and applying appropriate review approaches and question sets (first line risk experience desirable), with end-to-end claims handling knowledge or strong understanding of claims processes being advantageous
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to review data, identify trends, complete basic deep-dives and support insight-led recommendations
- Confident Excel and spreadsheet skills, with strong record keeping, attention to detail and accurate review of evidence and control outputs
- Clear communication and presentation skills, with the confidence to engage stakeholders at different levels and apply appropriate challenge where required
- A proactive learning mindset, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a structured, control-focused environment
You will be a strong team player, comfortable working independently when required, and keen to contribute to continuous improvement across the Claims Risk & Governance function.
