Job Description

At Mott MacDonald, we believe engineering is about more than solving problems; it is about shaping a future that is inclusive, resilient, and sustainable. As we expand across the US and Canada, we are inviting passionate individuals to join a purpose-driven journey powered by brilliant people. As trusted consultants, we partner with clients to solve complex challenges, deliver sustainable solutions, and create lasting impact for the communities they serve.

From the moment you join our team, you will work alongside experienced engineering consultants, project managers, subject matter experts, mentors, and peers who champion integrity, teamwork, excellence, and innovation. You will build your technical skills while developing the mindset of a consultant; contributing to meaningful work, collaborating to achieve better outcomes, and growing with support every step of the way.

As a participant in Blueprint, our new graduate program, you will embark on a structured three-year development journey designed in collaboration with an award-winning learning provider. The program combines immersive learning experiences with required development sessions to build the professional, commercial, and personal effectiveness skills graduates need to thrive and lead in our business.

Our Iselin, NJ office is seeking a Graduate Accountant to join our Accounting & Finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional to build a strong foundation in corporate accounting while gaining exposure to a broad range of financial processes and functions. Working under the guidance of an Accounting Manager and Controller, you’ll support month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, audit activities, and other key accounting functions. You’ll also have opportunities to rotate across areas of the accounting department, helping you develop a well-rounded understanding of our financial operations. In this role, you will:

  • Prepare monthly balance sheet, profit and loss (P&L), and intercompany account reconciliations
  • Prepare journal entries, prepaid schedules, accrual schedules, and other supporting documentation
  • Support the monthly close process for assigned accounting areas, ensuring information is accurate and completed on schedule
  • Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and management reporting
  • Review overhead expenditures, investigate transactions and variances, and help resolve discrepancies
  • Partner with Corporate Services and other internal stakeholders to understand and reconcile P&L and balance sheet activity
  • Support compliance with internal accounting controls, policies, and audit requirements
  • Provide documentation and support for year-end financial and tax audits
  • Assist with lease accounting and related reconciliations and reporting
  • Support internal audit activities and government reporting requirements
  • Work with large datasets to identify discrepancies, trends, and areas requiring further investigation
  • Participate in rotations across accounting functions to broaden your technical knowledge and understanding of the business
  • Contribute to special projects and process improvement initiatives as needed
  • Support critical accounting deadlines, including occasional additional hours during month-end, year-end, or other peak periods

We’re looking for someone who is curious, analytical, detail-oriented, and eager to develop their accounting career. You should have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work confidently with large amounts of financial data
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, INDEX MATCH, IF statements, and SUMIF/SUMIFS
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively against deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Willingness to ask questions, learn new processes, and take ownership of assigned responsibilities

Build your career while helping shape what comes next. At Mott MacDonald, you will be encouraged to explore your potential, share your ideas, and make meaningful contributions from the start.

  • Learning and development experiences that support your career goals
  • Dedicated mentorship and guidance from experienced professionals
  • Employee Resource Groups that help build connection and community
  • Meaningful opportunities to learn, contribute, and grow every day

Bring your curiosity, compassion, and drive to make a difference. If you are ready to join a collaborative engineering consultancy where your perspective is valued, your development is supported, and you are empowered to lead with integrity, we would love to hear from you.

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the US, as Mott MacDonald is unable to provide sponsorship at this time.
