Job Description

The Microsoft Renewable Energy team is charged with procuring carbon-free energy to meet its sustainability commitments – 100% renewable energy by 2025 and 100/100/0 by 2030. We are seeking a passionate and creative originator to join our team as a Renewable Energy Program Manager, focused on EMEA procurement.

You will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing renewable energy contracts for Microsoft. You will join an existing team that procures energy from new renewable energy projects via long-term PPAs for our Scope 2 and Scope 3 goals with an emphasis on EMEA markets. You will have demonstrated prior experience and knowledge of renewable energy procurement with an emphasis on corporate procurement, wholesale energy markets, large-scale energy portfolio management, finance, and energy policy.

Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing

Assists in defining, maintaining, and executing on sourcing strategy for renewable energy to ensure Microsoft meets its public-facing goals (e.g., 100% renewable energy 100/100/0, etc.). Considers all relevant elements of business requirements (e.g., risk management, project maturity, supplier relationship, technology adoption) and partners with cross-functional teams to develop sourcing strategies.

Sourcing Operations

Evaluates project viability and development progress, market conditions, and sourcing data to inform decision making that enables Microsoft to address its Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions.

Supplier Management

Manages contract and price negotiation activities and strategies for renewable energy PPAs, ensuring that price, capacity, and business needs are met in a risk mitigated manner. Where appropriate, ensures compliance with Microsoft’s requirements for cross-functional engagements with suppliers.

Serves as one of Microsoft's central points of contact for suppliers for renewable energy supply, leads the enablement and development of new suppliers to help Microsoft scale renewable energy procurement in global markets, and maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers.

Program Management

Manages internal cross-functional partnerships, monitors and resolves internal partner's issues without additional escalation, influences near-term sourcing decisions by discussing details and implications (e.g., tradeoffs, pricing), and seeks to align investments with supply needs to ensure delivery of renewable energy supply as contracted.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, Sustainability or related field AND Good years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, renewable energy law, or relevant sales-related roles;
    • or Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, Sustainability or related field AND Good years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, renewable energy law or relevant sales-related roles;
    • or equivalent experience
  • Good years of experience in European wholesale and retail power markets
  • Good Years of experience in renewable energy project development, procurement, negotiations, or origination

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading negotiations for renewable energy contractual agreements
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Understand deal valuation results, quantitative modeling and forecasting for commodity markets, and portfolio risk management
  • Experience in corporate energy procurement
  • Experience in data center energy procurement
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated experience applying growth mindset
  • Prior experience in the Ireland renewable energy market is preferred

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
