Job Description

Microsoft Cloud Operations & Innovation seeks a new Principal Program Manager – Renewable Energy Liaison, focused on renewable energy strategic communication and coordination for the EMEA region. The Renewable Energy team is charged with procuring carbon-free energy to meet the company’s sustainability commitments – 100% renewable energy by 2025 and 100/100/0 by 2030. Our ability to effectively communicate our global strategy at a local level is critical to securing datacenter capacity across EMEA.

The candidate will be responsible for speaking knowledgably to key datacenter stakeholders about renewable energy, supporting Microsoft leadership as they engage with ministries, policy makers and other key related decision makers for growing Microsoft’s datacenter footprint. Thus, the candidate must demonstrate a strong working knowledge of renewable energy projects – project development and/or contracting, European energy market expertise, and familiarity with datacenter siting. We seek someone with strong verbal and written communication skills that has a demonstrated track record of collaboration with internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Microsoft’s European central point of contact for Microsoft’s renewable energy portfolio, progress and goals
  • Participate in key datacenter stakeholder meetings to share Microsoft’s sustainability and carbon reduction goals from both a global and local perspective
  • Understand Microsoft’s current and planned renewable and carbon-free energy portfolio to develop market-specific communication strategies for Microsoft’s sustainability and carbon reduction goals and collaborating on targeted procurement to meet company’s goals
  • Research markets, competitors, and industry trends for datacenter sustainability and corresponding siting and consent approaches and needs
  • Identify opportunities for new renewable and carbon-free energy supply to meet datacenter needs
  • Embody our culture and values

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, Sustainability or related field AND SIGNIFICANT years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, renewable energy law, or relevant sales-related roles;
    • or Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, Sustainability or related field AND SIGNIFICANT years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, renewable energy law or relevant sales-related roles;
    • or equivalent experience
  • SIGNIFICANT years of experience in European wholesale and retail power markets
  • SIGNIFICANT years of experience in renewable energy project development, procurement, negotiations, or origination
  • Prior experience in data center or strategic infrastructure development / siting experience
  • Prior experience in public affairs, regulatory engagement and/or strategic communications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Renewable / carbon-free energy policy engagement
  • Experience in corporate energy procurement
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated experience applying growth mindset

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
