Overview

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team is responsible for the full lifecycle of Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure, spanning site selection, development, and operations. Our global footprint includes more than 400 datacenters in 34 countries, supported by over 165,000 miles of fiber optic cable. These facilities form the backbone of Microsoft Azure and are central to our commitment to reliable, secure, and sustainable digital infrastructure.

As part of the CO+I Energy Team, you will join a team of professionals responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and delivering strategic energy projects. The candidate will manage a portfolio of activities to identify and execute energy opportunities to advance Microsoft’s datacenter growth, in line with strategies to leverage sustainability, time to market and economic value in order to solidify Microsoft’s leadership in providing infrastructure for the global AI economy.

Microsoft seeks a Senior Program Manager in Energy Markets focused on EMEA. The role requires end-to-end ownership of complex energy programs including interconnection strategy, energy supply development, commercial negotiations, and delivery execution.

The Energy Program Manager will be recognized as a subject matter expert in energy markets and will independently deliver complex programs while influencing internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead datacenter interconnection strategy and execution with utilities and third-party suppliers
  • Own energy supply initiatives and commercial workstreams including contract negotiations

  • Independently manage complex multi-stakeholder energy programs

  • Analyze energy market trends, policy and regulation to reduce cost and mitigate risk

  • Develop and lead business cases and commercial strategies

  • Partner across Site Selection, Engineering, Finance, Legal and Delivery

  • Build and manage senior relationships with utilities, regulators and developers

  • Drive improvements in internal reporting, metrics and processes

  • Provide leadership through mentoring and leading key initiatives

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and working experience in energy, project management or business development OR equivalent experience

  • Deep understanding of European power markets (regulated and deregulated)

  • Experience working with utilities, DNOs or TNOs

  • Strong commercial and analytical capability across power markets and contracts

  • Experience negotiating contracts and delivering energy projects

  • Ability to operate independently in ambiguous environments

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills

  • Growth mindset and strong problem-solving capability

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading energy contract negotiations (PPA, utility agreements, lease energy structures, etc.)

  • Experience delivering energy strategies in hyperscale or digital infrastructure environments

  • Demonstrated track record of influencing outcomes across cross-functional and external stakeholder groups

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • ·Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Sourcing Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across United Kingdom is £ 74,700.00 - £ 112,100.00 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
