Job Description

Our team sits at the heart of Microsoft’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) & High Performance Computing (HPC) business – shaping and delivering the next generation of supercomputing. As Principal Technical Program Manager, Managed Services Delivery you will be a part of the creation, implementation, and successful execution and evolution of a strategic program. We require an innovative thinker, with a track record of driving change to align with the evolving needs of our largest and most significant customers as well as partnering with them to shape and disrupt markets through adoption and innovation of Microsoft technologies.
This role requires an individual with personal drive, a desire to roll up their sleeves and make things happen; a technical program manager with exceptional attention to detail who is highly resilient and thrives in a fast-paced and high-profile environment while addressing and solving large, complicated, and challenging problems. This role will allow you to develop depth in leading technologies, cloud operations and program management. You will have the opportunity to impact both Microsoft’s strategy and the world-wide mission of one of the largest and most forward-leaning customers. The Principal Technical Program Manager, HPC Delivery, will ensure the success and outcomes of run state services that support a complex integrated solution provided by Microsoft Product Groups and select partners. They will also play an integral role in shaping the future evolution of HPC platforms. The Principal Technical Program Manager is a seasoned executive who will leverage their strong HPC operations background and link tightly with UK and US teams. This role is an operational role and may require after-hours or weekend call-out in the event of critical situations. This role is based in the UK. Regular travel between Microsoft offices in Reading & London, and the customer site in the South West of England should be expected with a number of days per week spent at the customer site.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end customer experience and oversee the delivery of the HPC integrated solution across Microsoft and external partners, identifying improvements to achieve delivery excellence, participating in regular service review meetings and establishing long term relationships with senior leaders in a highly technical scientific and engineering customer to be able to influence and manage customer expectations.
  • Help to develop, champion and implement a step change in the HPC computational platform that incorporates leading edge technological advancements while leveraging the best of the current solution.
  • For the live service, be an effective customer escalation point of contact for production issues and serve as a vocal customer advocate inside Microsoft. For the evolution of the service, use these deep relationships and understanding of the customer to create stronger value propositions for both the customer and Microsoft.
  • Create effective and sustainable working relationships with internal and external delivery partners, collaborating across organisations to programmatically unify engineering resources and maintain senior leadership relationships in Microsoft and with partners. Ensure governance activities occur in line with account management and quality outcomes and create an aligned strategic vision.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Prior experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Significant experience leading complex IT and HPC operations and technology projects including: demonstrated depth in HPC operations and managing critical production workloads ideally in the cloud; adopting advanced technologies for better managed services outcomes; managing operations and engineering production teams; managing executive relationships.

Other Qualifications:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree AND experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis,
    • OR product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Significant managed services experience including demonstrated depth in managing critical and complex customer situations or incidents, customer relationship management, vendor management, contracts, service delivery management, engagement governance, and serving as the general contractor in a siloed functional delivery model.
  • Deep ethos and understanding of customer needs and the methods by which to surface articulated and unarticulated needs; Ability to work across groups – Engineering, Consulting, Commercial, Legal, and Senior Executives as well as across international teams to deliver a unified and coordinated One Microsoft experience. Must be amazing at making others great and building on others’ ideas to arrive at business outcomes.

The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. UK Baseline Personnel Security Standards; UK Security Clearance
  • This is a customer facing role and the expectation is to be at customer site (South West England) for 2-3 days a week (Accommodation expenses will be covered)
