Optical Engineer – Fiber Test and Characterisation

Job Description

Azure Fiber is seeking an Optical Engineer to join our team. In this hands-on role, you will develop and optimize fiber optic testing protocols, conduct lab-based product characterization, and analyze test data to identify areas for process improvement. Your daily activities will include designing and implementing production testing for fibers and cables, collaborating with Manufacturing, Engineering, R&D, and Modelling teams to introduce and validate new products. Proficiency in hardware automation and data analysis is essential, as you will support the launch of new hollowcore fiber and cable solutions in our production lines—all within our state-of-the-art Romsey facility.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in developing automated testing solutions and independently conducts automated testing on standard feature areas or products.
  • Assists in developing data pipelines for test automation and product characterization.
  • Participates in the development of dashboards or reports for testing and quality metrics.
  • Researches new tools, technologies, methods for project implementation. Provides recommendations to project team members as to which tool is appropriate.
  • Uses data and statistical analyses to make recommendations to optimize existing processes that can be used by own team.
  • Ensures that test requirements are included in documentation and specifications for a feature or product.
  • You’ll help develop automated testing solutions, participate in the development of dashboards or reports, and identify common problems with data analysis. You’ll also help develop prototype components.
  • Following established procedures, you’ll help create detailed reports for a well-defined product feature. Under guidance, you’ll also help develop training materials, and document essential details about device materials, components, and/or assemblies for a device.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field OR equivalent experience.

You must be legally authorised (have citizenship or a valid visa/work permit) to work in the UK to be eligible for this role.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or preferred qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.
