Job Description

Overview
With over 17,000 employees worldwide, the mission of the Customer Experience & Success (CE&S) organization is to empower customers to accelerate business value through differentiated customer experiences that leverage Microsoft’s products, services, and partnerships. Come join CE&S and help us build a future where customers achieve their business outcomes faster with technology that does more.

We are seeking a mid‑level Software Developer with strong and proven professional experience to design, build, and deliver high‑quality software solutions that support business and customer outcomes. This role requires strong engineering fundamentals, the ability to work independently on well‑defined problems, and effective collaboration within a cross‑functional team. The successful candidate will bring hands‑on experience using modern development practices, including AI‑assisted tools such as GitHub, Copilot and large language models, to improve code quality, productivity, and design thinking. They will demonstrate sound capability in systems analysis and design, translating functional and non‑functional requirements into scalable, maintainable solutions.

The role also requires a good working knowledge of cloud architecture, with experience building or contributing to cloud‑native applications and services. This position is well suited for an engineer who is technically strong, adaptable, and motivated by delivering well‑designed solutions in a modern, cloud‑first engineering environment. This role supports application modernisation and AI‑enabled engineering initiatives, with an emphasis on agentic development patterns.

The successful candidate will work on modernising existing systems as well as building net‑new cloud‑native solutions, using AI‑assisted and agent‑based approaches to accelerate analysis, design, and delivery. Hands‑on development capability remains critical; AI tools are expected to augment, not replace, strong engineering judgement

To be eligible for this role (as we require Secruity clearance), you must be currently living in the United Kingdom for the past 5 years and also be a British citizen. Please note this role is based in Paddington, London.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and modernise software solutions using agentic and AI‑assisted development approaches, including patterns inspired by Copilot style engagements.
  • Contribute to the modernisation of existing systems, leveraging AI tools and agent‑based techniques to improve developer productivity, code quality, and long‑term maintainability.
  • Apply systems analysis and design principles to understand both legacy and modern application landscapes, identifying opportunities for simplification, modularisation, and cloud alignment.
  • Develop and enhance cloud‑native applications and services, using modern cloud architectures and engineering best practices.
  • Use AI‑assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, large language models, and agentic workflows) as part of day‑to‑day engineering, while maintaining strong engineering judgement, accountability, and code ownership.
  • Collaborate with architects, product managers, and engineers to translate functional and non‑functional requirements into scalable, well‑designed technical solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical decision‑making to uphold engineering standards and best practices.
  • Support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement by contributing reusable patterns, learnings, and assets from modernisation and AI‑enabled development work.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Strong and proven experience in software development, delivering production‑quality solutions.
  • Strong proficiency in one or more modern programming languages, with solid engineering fundamentals (data structures, APIs, testing, and maintainable code).
  • Demonstrated experience using AI‑assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot and large language models, to support design, development, and productivity.
  • Good knowledge of systems analysis and software design, including translating requirements into well‑structured technical solutions.
  • Hands‑on experience developing applications in a cloud environment, with familiarity in cloud‑native concepts (e.g. services, APIs, security, scalability).
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross‑functional team and communicate technical concepts clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience modernising existing or legacy systems using modern development practices and tooling.
  • Exposure to agent‑based or AI‑enabled modernisation approaches, such as applying LLMs for code understanding, refactoring, or solution design.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and version control systems (e.g. GitHub).
  • Experience operating in agile or iterative delivery environments.

This position will be open for a minimum of 5 days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
