Job Description
An exciting opportunity for a passionate Storage and Backup engineer to join a unique, multi-national Information Management function. Ideal candidates should be committed to the future of software defined data centres and open source technologies and have the dedication in supporting our engineering community in a dynamic, fast paced development environment.
Salary: Up to £68,000 depending on experience
Dynamic (hybrid) working: 1-2 days per week on-site due to workload classification
Security Clearance: British Citizen.
This role will require DV Clearance. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:
We are seeking a skilled Storage & Backup Engineer to design, implement, maintain, and support enterprise storage and data protection solutions. The role focuses on ensuring high availability, reliability, and security of data across on-premises and internal cloud environments. The engineer will work closely with infrastructure and security teams to deliver scalable storage architectures and robust backup and recovery strategies.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain enterprise storage infrastructure including SAN, NAS, and object storage systems.
- Manage and administer backup and recovery solutions to ensure reliable data protection and disaster recovery capabilities.
- Monitor storage capacity, performance, and utilization, and plan for future growth.
- Configure and maintain backup policies, schedules, and retention strategies.
- Perform regular backup verification, restore testing, and disaster recovery drills.
- Troubleshoot storage and backup issues and provide root cause analysis.
- Implement data lifecycle management, archiving, and replication strategies.
- Ensure compliance with data protection, security, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with system administrators and application teams to support infrastructure needs.
- Automate storage and backup operations using scripting or infrastructure automation tools.
- Maintain documentation for storage architectures, backup procedures, and recovery processes.
What we're looking for from you:
- Experience in enterprise storage and backup administration.
- Strong experience with SAN, NAS, and storage virtualisation technologies.
- Hands-on experience with backup solutions such as:
- Veritas NetBackup
- Veeam Backup & Replication
- Cohesity
Experience with storage platforms such as:
- NetApp storage arrays
- HPE storage solutions
- Knowledge of RAID, replication, snapshot, and deduplication technologies.
- Experience with Linux and Windows server environments.
- Understanding of disaster recovery planning and business continuity.
- Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills.
