We have a fantastic opportunity for an SRA Director - Europe to join us here at Mars. This role reports to the Senior Director Scientific and Regulatory Affairs, Europe, CEAB & Turkey. You'll bring an in-depth understanding of science and regulatory processes, and effectively communicate within and outside of the business. You'll need to effectively network and inspire confidence with senior scientists, regulators and key opinion leaders and be able to influence internal and external stakeholders to ensure that Mars has the greatest freedom to operate and to identify and create opportunities for further growth.

You'll lead the strategic development of the Scientific and Regulatory agenda for Europe and contribute to the regional strategic direction of SRA. You'll analyze and effectively communicate complicated scientific and regulatory scenarios in a simple but effective way to enable the business to make appropriate decisions.

What are we looking for?

Education & Professional Qualifications:

  • A science based higher degree in a technical subject ideally related to food science, nutrition and health; proven experience of working in the field of food legislation, food science, health and nutrition will also be considered.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Extensive experience in a relevant scientific or regulatory discipline and experience in at least one of the following areas: food legislation, food science, nutrition and health.
  • People leadership experience and team development/performance experience.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity & manage conflict effectively.
  • Trade association knowledge.
  • Experience across multiple markets including Europe.

What will be your key responsibilities?

Role Overview:

As a Director Scientific & Regulatory Affairs Europe, you will:

  • Develop and maintain SRA organization: Oversee Regulatory Compliance, Regulatory Affairs, and Scientific Affairs for Germany, France, UK, and Eastern Europe. Ensure team development, recruitment, succession planning, and performance management in support of designated markets and clusters.
  • Monitor scientific & regulatory issues and provide thought leadership across Europe - Develop an SRA strategy for Europe, contribute to the broader regional SRA and business strategy.
  • Influence stakeholders to maximize operational freedom and identify growth opportunities.
  • Influence external organizations: Represent the company in trade, regulatory bodies, and scientific organizations. Lead technical strategy to influence policy and provide SRA guidance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with R&D, Marketing, Commercial, Legal, Corporate Affairs and external partners to guide business on scientific and regulatory matters.
  • Lead strategic SRA projects: Manage complex projects with global impact. Measure and manage workload for priority projects.
  • Ensure effective communication: Align SRA community within Europe & Central Eurasia and globally on key topics. Participate in regional and global forums.
