Role Overview:

We have an amazing opportunity to join us as a Senior Principal Scientist in Slough. You'll apply your deep scientific knowledge as well as organizational and project managerial skills broadly to provide leadership and strategic guidance to internal partners on scientific matters, primarily in the area of health and nutrition.

You'll work on a strategic level, guiding the business on health and nutrition matters to drive growth, whilst also managing a network of internal and external scientists and partnerships. This role involves regional and global coverage to ensure that science drives business relevant positions and policies which enhance Mars' reputation externally. You'll be a representative of Mars, and actively participate in and lead external activities as a member of industry associations and scientific organizations.

What are we looking for?

Education & Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field; such as nutrition, food science, biology, chemistry or pharmacology.
  • Preferred: A Master’s degree in a technical area, such as nutrition, food science, biology, chemistry or pharmacology, or in food law.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Extensive experience in scientific affairs, including clinical research, developing policy, communicating science and managing expert networks and partnerships.
  • Experience working on large-scale scientific engagement and influencing; a demonstrated track record of working successfully across functions to achieve shared goals; and proven ability to interact cross-functionally at all levels within the organization are required.
  • Experience working with external stakeholders like academia, trade associations, scientific organisations and government agencies to drive scientific based policy and regulation is required.

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Lead external scientific engagement in health and nutrition to enhance Mars Wrigley Confectionery’s reputation and support business goals.
  • Provide expertise on emerging and ongoing health and nutrition issues and consumer trends to promote product and company trust.
  • Build and manage networks of scientific experts and partnerships.
  • Influence scientific and regulatory issues by identifying, interpreting, and communicating relevant science.
  • Identify emerging scientific topics and define strategies for engagement and research.
  • Contribute to global workstreams on health and nutrition matters.
  • Address and resolve scientific issues impacting products and reputation.
  • Represent Mars Wrigley in trade, industry, professional, and scientific associations, driving the agenda in line with business objectives.
