The Product Data Champion is a subject matter expert with deep understanding about the required Product Master Data Model, Standards and Business Rules in the context of data management. He/She needs a deep understanding about the CRUD (Create, Update & Delete) processes.

The Data Champion works very closely with the Product Data Officer and is permanent member of the Product Data Council. As the leader of the Data Governance meetings he/she leads the Product Master Data definition, process mapping and data modelling works in collaboration with the data stewardship organizations, as well as with Functional & Mars Segments.


This is a global cross-segment role, preferably based at a Mars hub in the EU or UK, to align with key stakeholder time zones and facilitate effective collaboration.

What are we looking for?

  • Education & Professional Qualification: Bachelors Degree or equivalent on business administration and or logistics

  • Has considerable experience (5 years min) in Data Management and/or Governance. Alternatively has solid experience with Material Specification Management, or material data related Activity Management.

  • Experienced and capable to envision, model and optimize complex, yet efficient business processes, data and work-flows

  • Demonstrated Leadership skills, with proven management experience within a matrix organization to influence & drive adoption and harmonization of standards in case of regional differences

  • Managing Vision and Purpose is critical in ensuring an appropriate and effective communication to key stakeholders

  • Ability to travel flexibly globally (up to 1 week every 2-3 periods)

  • Fluent in spoken and written English, any additional language is an advantage

  • Multi-cultural awareness incl. adaptability/ flexibility

  • Strong Business Acumen of the FMCG industry and preferably the Mars Inc. portfolios

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Guide Business Function SMEs in the preparation of Material Master Data Standards and Metadata. Drive alignment in the organization and formalize through the approvals in Data Governance Meetings. Adapt existing standards to the changes driven by on-going transformation programs. Those standards and metadata can include Data Model, Data Definitions, Business Rules, Business Processes and KPIs.

  • Play a key role in upgrading and facilitating data governance operating model, identifying Business Function SMEs in the context of data ownership as well as managing stakeholders.

  • Identify & document the link between data attributes (core product, executional) and related business functions to allow the implementation of system supported workflow solutions in market and supply units

  • Collaborate with regional Data Owner Business Functions, Data Stewards and Data Quality organization to ensure data standards are effectively implemented.

  • Own and deliver approved small / medium size projects to deploy or improve workflow in business units

  • Support the Data Governance Lead in identifying training needs on data standards for data owners who become part of the data provision process in a unit

  • Understand the impact of changes in structure and data to downstream consumers of the master data. They drive any analysis on the impact across the various aspects like structure, process, quality etc.

  • They are responsible to build learning and knowledge artifacts that will help in the adoption of the data standards.

  • They also help resolve Cross-Functional issues that can potentially occur for a data domain or across data domains.

  • They are responsible for defining & tracking the efficiency of the governance process.
