The new Petcare OGSM highlights 3 priority health areas, where we believe we can make a meaningful impact on pet health by working together across the ecosystem. These are oral, skin and healthy weight. This role is accountable for developing, managing and delivering a long-term programme of initiatives in these health areas, working across divisions and functions in Mars Petcare to ensure delivery of programme goals, including a significant positive impact on pet quality of life.

What are we looking for?

  • Educated to a minimum degree level or equivalent, or equivalent experience
  • Scientific and / or veterinary background desirable but not essential.
  • Broad base of skills and experiences with an ability to focus on the big picture as well as dive into the detail and make common sense decisions to move the programme forward;
  • The ideal candidate brings a mix of skills and experiences at the intersection of science, medicine and business;
  • A thought-leader and a trouble-shooter this individual needs to be able to work effectively across functions and divisions with credibility;
  • Collaborative and ecosystem focused, partners with other ecosystem leaders to embed new ways of working and delivers a programme of initiatives that improves the quality of life of pets.
  • Collaborative and people-focused, with experience of leading cross-functional teams and ability to work well with a range of experts;
  • Effective at influencing and motivating at all levels within the business;
  • Strong strategic thinker and ability to take ideas from vision to reality;
  • Has a user-centric and outcome-focused mindset;
  • Sound intellectual capability in order to rapidly understand potentially unfamiliar concepts and processes e.g. scientific & technology concepts and veterinary care pathways;
  • Action- and results-orientated with the ability to make decisions with minimal supervision;
  • Strong communication skills, incl. effective presentations to all levels of management;
  • Good analytical capabilities and business acumen.


What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Accountable for the development and delivery of the 3 health priorities programme, ensuring initiatives are deployed effectively into the business and deliver on programme goals
  • Strategic leader, leading cross-functional teams across Petcare divisions to identify, develop and deploy these initiatives in the aligned timeframes
  • Liaises with external stakeholders to ensure the programme is reviewed and endorsed by external experts where appropriate
  • Embeds programme governance and tracking, in partnership with global strategy team and ensures technical governance occurs within divisions.
  • Responsible for stakeholder buy in and progress updates to programme sponsors, Science Leadership Team (SLT) & Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), working together with the strategy co-pilot and programme PMO.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to facilitate resourcing, acting to remove roadblocks & escalating where necessary.
  • Responsible for budget allocation, stakeholder alignment and accountable for monitoring spend across initiative pipeline and programme management.
  • Responsible for programme communications to Associates.
  • Works in partnership with other health and ecosystem programme leaders to drive efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Champions ecosystem mindset & ways of working
  • Supported by PMO who tracks progress, budgets and flags risks on operational level and works in concert with a strategy co-pilot from global Petcare.
