Job Description:
The purpose of the Global Climate Scientist role is to collaborate with Global and Regional R&D and Sustainability teams to identify and drive R&D activities and contribute to the MARS Climate strategy. The Job holder will also ensure the Regional and Global R&D teams have up-to-date insights, knowledge and tools, communicate programme progress and support resolution of roadblocks.
The job holder will play a key role in connecting the OE and Central R&D teams to ensure up-to-date knowledge and tools, as well as framing challenges and driving resolution in close collaboration with the Central Climate Director. This role will also act as R&D’s Data lead, ensuring Data Quality and continuous improvement in collaboration with the relevant Pet Nutrition and Corporate teams. This role will also lead the identification, codification and deployment of regional best practices and in this context, lead the development of Global Tools and the co-leadership of the Global Climate Community of Purpose
What will be your key responsibilities?
Primary operational link between OE and Central R&D, and with Petcare and Corporate Sustainability teams to deliver the Climate Targets
Responsible for Climate Data Quality and continuous improvement in collaboration with PN and Corporate Sustainability Teams
Creation and execution of Climate Data business processes for R&D
Responsible for developing Data Tools and Systems to drive efficient use for R&D, in collaboration with Petcare and the Corporate team
Own R&D / Formulation Input into list of Raw Materials with Carbon Impact Factors needing revision/creation, and drive resolution with the Global Petcare sustainability & Corporate Teams
Climate technical lead, including the Leadership, co-development, communication and continuous improvement of R&D technical tools
Co-creation and execution of Climate business processes for the recipe optimisation pillar (eg Carbon Action Planning)
Data analysis and interpretation of Petcare’s Carbon footprint for Raw Materials, Recipes and Products inc generation of actionable insights to feed the central and OE action plans
Creation and presentation of R&D Climate updates into OE and central forums, including senior stakeholders
Facilitation of Global and Regional workshops on Climate
Co-leadership of the PN Climate team, including meeting preparation and facilitation
Create and provide Technical Training on Climate for the R&D Regional and Global Teams
What are we looking for?
Degree in Animal Nutrition, Food Science, Food Technology or equivalent. An advanced degree is preferred, particularly with a sustainability focus.
Minimum 5 years of experience in research and development
Experience in food innovation and functionality of raw materials
Track record in leadership & delivery of complex technical projects/programs
Experience in Formulation and leading Sustainability/Carbon Footprint based projects (preferred)
Extensive experience in a technical function in FMCG (or similar business) R&D product, formulation, and process development, preferably within Innovation
Actively builds collaborative and effective relationships with partners across the business
Ability to effectively collaborate, influence, steer and lead senior managers and peers in R&D, Commercial and Marketing. Excellent communication skills, written and oral
