The Associate Engineer Packaging Development is a key role within the One M&M'S R&D organization. This role will identify, scope, plan and execute packaging projects and experiences across future and existing innovation horizons to drive growth, efficiencies, and sustainability across the M&M’S ecosystem.
As an Associate Engineer Packaging Development at Mars, you will lead and support conceptual design and development activities of new packaging, from opportunity identification to finished packaging specifications and execution in market. You will work both independently and with guidance to deliver relevant innovation and will work effectively with cross functional teams to drive projects to execution. Significant collaboration is expected with global R&D teams, Marketing, Human Intelligence, Commercial, Supply, regional teams, and other business partners and key stakeholders.
What are we looking for?
B.S. Degree in Engineering/Technology or relevant degree, or equivalent experience.
Industry packaging experience.
Technical knowledge of food packaging industry, supply base, materials, and processes.
Knowledge of packaging equipment, materials, and supply systems.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in cross functional teams.
Experience working with outside vendors and internal and external facilities to deliver project requirements.
Experience collaborating with product development in the transition of new products from lab to pilot plant and from pilot plant to scale production.
Demonstrated learning agility, problem solving skills and project management skills.
Travel up to 25% may be required
Proficiency in French language highly preferred
What will be your key responsibilities?
Accountable for technical project management of allocated pack projects. Deliver packaging innovation activities and execution of allocated programs from initial brief to project delivery and commercialization. This may include: prototyping, material selection, cost analysis, testing and test method development, defining and delivering M&M’S key quality attributes and project success criteria, developing specifications, qualification trials, launch and post-launch support.
Support new product development initiatives (e.g. new flavors, recipes updates) with fit testing, weight studies, distribution testing, and artwork approvals as needed.
Ensure that packaging development designs deliver solutions to meet brand KQA’s.
Ensure that the packaging development process is carried out such that timelines are met to market products.
Ensure that packaging quality and manufacturing performance measures and corrective actions are specified for new and current packaging to ensure performance. Support root cause analysis and resolution of quality issues as they arise with the stores, production, and/or the supplier.
Work within cross-functional teams to ensure that design thinking is used within projects and programs.
Partner with technology and sustainability packaging teams to help deliver required technology for quality and sustainable growth.
Remain abreast of new developments in packaging technology, design, and trends.
Build strong relationships with suppliers to leverage their capabilities and enable innovations.
Collaborate with Packaging peers in other teams, regions, and business units (regional, global) to share best practices, identify new opportunities, and build partnerships to accelerate problem solving and innovation development.
Initiate and coordinate line trials for Commissioning, Validation, and Startup through planning and execution.
Monitor & implement new European regulations in partnership with Quality & Food Safety
