Job Description

Join Maersk’s Performance Team as a Vessel Performance Manager and play a key role in improving the energy efficiency and operational performance of Maersk-owned and time-chartered vessels.

Job Summary

As Vessel Performance Manager, you will monitor vessel performance, drive energy optimization initiatives, and provide technical and analytical support to vessels and Fleet Operations. You will work closely with vessel management teams, Technical Superintendents, Fleet Technology colleagues, and other stakeholders to improve fuel efficiency, strengthen performance reporting, and maximize the utilization of digital performance tools.

The role requires a combination of marine engineering knowledge, vessel operational experience, analytical capability, and strong stakeholder-management skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor the energy-efficiency performance of vessels under your responsibility.
  • Provide vessels with clear guidance on setting and maintaining the correct operational parameters for optimum efficiency.
  • Identify performance gaps and drive actions to improve fuel consumption and overall vessel performance.
  • Ensure that safety remains the highest priority in all vessel-performance initiatives and project activities.
  • Collate and analyse vessel-performance reports to identify trends, improvement opportunities, and areas requiring intervention.
  • Develop vessel-specific performance knowledge by sharing operational trends, lessons learned, and best practices.
  • Assist vessel teams with StarConnect usability and performance-related queries.
  • Support the development and implementation of new performance systems and analytical solutions.
  • Translate complex engineering and performance data into practical operational actions.
  • Assist Fleet groups with investigations into technical failures, performance deviations, and operational incidents.
  • Identify emerging performance risks by monitoring incidents, recurring deviations, and vessel-operating trends.
  • Maintain effective communication with vessels, Fleet Management, Technology teams, Chartering stakeholders, and external parties.
  • Work effectively across multicultural and cross-functional teams.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for a motivated, analytical, and solutions-oriented maritime professional with a strong interest in improving vessel energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact.

The preferred candidate should have:

  • Seagoing experience, preferably as a Senior Marine Engineer.
  • Sound knowledge of vessel operations, marine machinery, and energy-efficiency principles.
  • Experience with electronically controlled main engines, including ME and RT-flex engines; experience with waste heat recovery systems would be an advantage.
  • Experience in vessel-performance monitoring and performance-management systems.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to convert complex technical data into practical operational recommendations.
  • Experience using data-analysis and visualization tools.
  • Strong problem-solving capability, with an innovative and resource-conscious approach.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • A diligent, organized, and proactive working style.
  • The ability to work effectively with multicultural vessel and shore-based teams.
  • A strong commitment to safety, operational excellence, continuous improvement, and environmental performance.

Why Join Us

Join a collaborative team dedicated to improving fuel and energy efficiency across the Maersk fleet. This role combines marine engineering and vessel operations expertise with data analytics, digital performance tools, and exposure to emerging technologies and projects to deliver measurable operational and environmental impact.
