Key responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced maritime professional to join our Marine Assurance team as a Vessel Assurance Surveyor. This role plays a key part in enhancing the safety, reliability, compliance, and operational performance of our fleet through vessel inspections, assurance activities, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The successful candidate will bring extensive seagoing experience and a deep understanding of container vessel operations, with the credibility and expertise to engage effectively with both shipboard and shore-based stakeholders.

Inspection Planning

• Independently plan and coordinate vessel assurance surveys, port inspections and Internal Audits for the MAS team
• Utilize digital platforms, AI and company systems to determine vessel priorities and inspection scope, including:
  • Vessel Risk Profile Dashboards.
  • RCA performance and findings databases.
  • Scheduling and planning Dashboards
• Prioritize inspections of higher-risk vessels based on fleet risk indicators.
  

Vessel Assurance Surveys

• Conduct port-based assurance surveys to verify vessel safety, reliability, and critical safety controls.
• Assess engine room fire prevention measures and test critical emergency and safety equipment.

Reporting and Follow-up

• Issue inspection reports, document findings, and track actions to closure.
• Communicate risks, observations, NC’s and recommendations to vessel and shore management teams.
• Record and close relevant safety assurance tasks and critical control verifications.
• Monitor trends and highlight emerging operational risks.

Continuous Improvement and Leadership

• Lead accident and incident investigations and promote lessons learned.
• Identify risks, drive operational improvements, and support the continuous development of the Vessel Assurance Program
• Collaborate with vessel management and key stakeholders to strengthen safety, reliability & compliance and address recurring operational risks.
• Recommend practical improvements that enhance efficiency, assurance quality, and cost effectiveness.

We’re looking for

• Recent sailing experience on Maersk container vessels in a senior rank is required.
• Master Mariner, Chief Engineer, or equivalent maritime qualification. Candidates with sailing experience as Chief Officer (C/O) or Second Engineer (2/E) are also encouraged to apply.
• Extensive seagoing experience on container vessels, with a strong understanding of vessel operations, safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Sound knowledge of IMO conventions, maritime regulations, safety management systems, and Port State Control requirements.
• Strong understanding of vessel operations, maintenance, reliability, and assurance processes.
• Excellent analytical, communication, stakeholder management, and report-writing skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and digital reporting tools. Experience leveraging AI-enabled technologies is an advantage.
• Willingness and ability to travel internationally and undertake vessel inspections globally.
