We’re seeking a Senior Maritime Lawyer to join our in-house Maritime Law legal team.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in advising on, drafting and negotiating a variety of maritime contracts, such as charterparties, vessel sharing agreements, and bill of lading terms. There will be an emphasis on leading the legal support for maritime contracts and forging strong links with relevant stakeholders. The candidate will also be expected to assist with maritime disputes handling and some maritime transactional work (e.g. retrofit, or vessel recycling). A background as a dry shipping lawyer will be desirable, as is a flexible and adaptable approach to accommodate the needs of the business.
This role requires a proactive legal professional who can understand and handle complex legal issues and support the company’s business operations. The role offers excellent exposure to a wide variety of maritime related legal matters in a fast-paced commercial environment.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the inhouse legal support for advising on, drafting and negotiating maritime contracts, including VSAs, slot charters, time charters, bills of lading.
- Work alongside stakeholders on major vessel network related projects.
- Handle day to day chartering pre-fixture queries, and other day to day contract/maritime law queries.
- Handle maritime disputes, including CP disputes, bill of lading issues, incident related matters.
- Develop template contracts and clauses.
- Work with stakeholders to identify potential legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
What are we looking for:
- 5+ years’ experience in maritime law, from either an in-house or private practise background. English qualified lawyer is preferred .
- Proven experience in advising on and drafting maritime contracts, such as CPs, VSAs, slot charters, and bills of lading.
- Strong team player who can work collaboratively within a small, busy and experienced team, whilst also having the ability to work independently and manage their own workload in a fast-paced environment.
- Good commercial awareness and industry knowledge, including good understanding of marine insurance, maritime regulations and international conventions, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with many different stakeholders within the Company.
- Experience in handling shipping disputes, for example, charterparty disputes, cargo claims, collisions and salvage.
- Experience in ship finance, new buildings, retrofit or ship recycling is desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
