Job Description
Senior Cyber Architect
At Maersk, cyber security underpins everything we do as the global integrator of container logistics. Our vessels, terminals, warehouses, and digital platforms operate at enormous scale and complexity, and all depend on secure, resilient technology. As Maersk continues its ambitious technology transformation, cyber security plays a critical role in enabling businesses to operate safely, reliably, and at speed.
Maersk operates in more than 130 countries, employs around 100,000 people, and runs complex, globally distributed technology platforms that are continuously targeted by cyber threats. Protecting this environment requires clear architectural judgement, strong technical credibility, and the confidence to make and defend decisions that balance risk, resilience, operability, and cost. This is where you come in.
As a Senior Cyber Architect in the Cyber Operations & Engineering Team, you will act as a design authority for the cyber security platforms and controls that protect Maersk’s global technology estate, translating cyber risk and security requirements into clear, repeatable architecture patterns and designs.
You will work closely with Strategy Owners, Engineering teams, and wider Cyber Operations teams to ensure security is embedded early and consistently across change initiatives, spanning IT and industrial / OT environments.
Job Purpose:
The Senior Cyber Architect is responsible for defining, governing, and assuring the solution architecture of cyber security capabilities and services across Maersk’s global technology landscape. The role ensures that cyber security solutions are designed and implemented in line with Maersk’s security strategy, architectural principles, and risk posture, while enabling business platforms to operate securely and at scale.
The role acts as a senior technical authority within the Cyber Security organisation, bridging strategy and delivery by translating cyber security requirements into clear architectural patterns, standards, and designs, ensuring that solutions are aligned to Maersk’s architecture principles, cyber strategy, and risk posture. The Senior Cyber Architect translates strategic cyber requirements into repeatable architecture patterns and designs that enable secure delivery at scale.
The Senior Cyber Architect works closely with Engineering and Delivery teams, Strategy owners, and enterprise architecture to ensure consistent, secure, and cost-effective implementation of cyber capabilities across IT and Industrial environments.
As a design authority, this role carries accountability for architectural decision making within defined cyber domains and contributes to enterprise-wide initiatives such as Zero Trust, cloud security, identity, network security, and industrial / OT security.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with Strategy Owners, Engineering Delivery Managers, and delivery teams to ensure cyber architecture is embedded early and consistently in change initiatives.
- Act as design authority for cyber security solutions, providing architectural approval, challenge, and guidance throughout the delivery lifecycle, and ensuring alignment with enterprise and cyber architecture principles, standards and patterns.
- Design cyber security solutions, integrations and transition roadmaps across domains including network security, identity, endpoint, cloud, appsec and Industrial/OT security.
- Define and maintain solution architecture designs, patterns, and operational standards for cyber security solutions.
- Ensure cyber solutions are designed for resilience, scalability, operability, and cost efficiency, in addition to enabling functional security.
- Review and assure solution designs produced by delivery teams for compliance with cyber architecture standards.
- Lead or contribute to security architecture reviews, threat modelling, and architectural risk assessments for new and changed solutions.
- Ensure architectural risks are identified, documented, and either mitigated or formally accepted through the appropriate governance channels.
- Incorporate lessons learned from incidents and operational issues into updated architecture patterns.
Required Experience and Skills:
- 8+ years of experience in Network Security/ Cyber Security with hands-on experience into one or more following areas: network, identity, endpoint, cloud, appsec and/or OT/industrial domains and the challenges of securing such environments.
- Proven ability to assess, design, and assure security solutions against industry frameworks and baselines (e.g. Zero Trust, defence‑in‑depth, NIST, CIS, ISO 27001).
- Solid understanding of cloud security architectures (including Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and/or Ali Baba Cloud), including shared responsibility models, native security services, and SaaS / PaaS / IaaS patterns.
- Ability to perform and govern threat modelling, architectural risk assessments, security design reviews, and baseline compliance assessments.
- Strong understanding of risks, threats, vulnerabilities, and attack techniques, and how these influence architectural design decisions.
- Familiarity with automation, scripting, and API concepts sufficient to inform secure, operable architectural designs.
Professional & Architectural Skills:
- Strong architecture documentation skills, including the production of high‑quality, accessible design artefacts (e.g. ADRs, HLDs, LLDs, diagrams).
- Confident stakeholder engagement, with the ability to challenge constructively and influence outcomes across cross‑functional teams.
- Ability to articulate architectural trade‑offs and decisions clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Proven experience operating in large, complex enterprise environments in cyber security, security engineering, or security architecture roles.
- Experience acting as a design authority, senior technical approver, or architectural reviewer within change delivery models, contributing architectural authority rather than owning operational run.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across global, distributed teams and influence senior technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Knowledge of transportation / shipping or other industrial sectors.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments and familiarity with ITIL service management / operational management concepts
Education & Certifications
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
Relevant security or architecture certifications (e.g. CISSP, CISM, SABSA, Azure security certifications, CompTIA, CEH) are advantageous but not mandatory.
Success Measures:
- Cyber security solutions are delivered in line with approved architecture patterns with minimal rework.
- Improved consistency and reuse of cyber security designs across platforms.
- Reduced architectural risk introduced through change.
Positive feedback from delivery teams on clarity and value of architectural engagement.
