Senior Cloud Engineer

Job Purpose/summary

The Senior Cloud Engineer role is responsible for ensuring that teams are supported on their journey to manged cloud. You will then provide ongoing support to ensure the products run optimally, securely with a focus on ensuring that the solution can meet the uptime and availability SLA’s. You will need to be a vocal advocate for the managed cloud service and ensure that the service remains relevant and is skilled to deliver a best in class service.

Key responsibilities:

• Responsible for ensure that solutions onboarding onto the platform are secure.
• Responsible for ensuring that any updates or additions to the Azure and AWS services can be onboarded to the Operations team.
• Creation and updates to AWS Landing zones/accounts
• Ensuring that SOP’s and knowledge articles exist for all deployed technologies.
• Provide consultancy and advise on best practices for AWS and Azure services
• Working with the product teams to understand their requirements and create solutions to enable developer productivity and reduce time to market.
• Ensure that solutions are supportable in a scalable way without significant human intervention.
• Responsible for the availability and performance of solutions hosted in AWS and AWS
• Develop custom dashboards and alerts for cloud based systems
• Automate the deployment of new components using tools such as Terraform & Ansible.
• Maintain a wide depth and breadth of PaaS and IaaS knowledge across the AWS and Azure estate.
• Document, communicate and log follow up actions for later triage, prioritisation and action to avoid reoccurrences.
• Manage Build and release pipelines
• Review and improve existing infrastructure as code pipelines.
• Maintain awareness of the forward schedule of change and changes actively in play or recently completed such that this awareness can be leveraged in the event of an incident occurring on the same or impacted platforms.
• Assist in the creation of high quality documentation in accordance to the organisation’s standards
• Carry out risk assessment and reporting.
• Serve as an Incident Management escalation point when called upon.

Required experience

• 5 years demonstrable expertise in supporting either Azure or AWS
• 2+ years working within a Devops team using agile frameworks.
• 5+ years demonstrable IT Infrastructure knowledge across a wide range of technologies.
• 3+years Terraform
• 3+ years Ansible
• 3+ years working knowledge and experience of 3rd line support

Technical skills

• Will have one or more of the following certifications
• · AWS SysOps Administrator
• · AWS Solutions Architect
• · Azure Administrator Associate · Azure Solutions Architect Expert
• Expertise with Terraform and Ansible
• Expertise with grafana
• Capability to troubleshoot in a Cloud environment.
• Understanding of application topologies and how applications could and should be scaled for demand.
• Broad knowledge of IT Operations in an enterprise environment.
• Good understanding of Microsoft technologies; e.g. Active Directory, Windows Server, SQL Server & IIS
• Good understanding of Linux technologies
