About the role:

The Regional Head of Procurement, First Mile, Rail & Depots is responsible for driving cost leadership, advancing sustainability, and enabling profitable growth across Landside Transportation and Depot operations—including Container Drayage, Storage, Rail, and Chassis across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

This leader will partner closely with Regional and Area stakeholders to ensure procurement efforts fully align with the commercial strategy and the company’s sustainability commitments. Key value drivers include securing capacity at best‑of‑market rates, delivering high service performance and customer satisfaction, and maintaining strict adherence to Safety and ESG requirements.

A core element of the role is developing a transportation asset‑right strategy, including optimizing the electric vehicle (EV) fleet and charging infrastructure, sourcing low‑emission transport services, and defining the optimal mix of owned assets, sub‑haulers, and owner‑operators to support scale, resilience, and cost competitiveness.

The Head of Procurement will be accountable for developing and executing sourcing strategies, establishing a robust Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) framework, and shaping a supplier ecosystem that delivers reliability, innovation, and environmental sustainability.

This high‑impact role is part of the Regional L&S Procurement Leadership Team and will champion new technologies that build scalability, enhance visibility, and strengthen compliance across First Mile and Depots.

In this role, you will:

  • Create and execute a procurement strategy that enables profitable growth across all products in scope.

  • Drive collaboration with Product and Operations to price and develop competitive and reliable supply chain solutions.

  • Develop a strong Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) program to foster loyalty and drive joint value creation.

  • Manage vendor performance in close partnership with Operations.

  • Provide spend visibility and market intelligence to support procurement initiatives and go‑to‑market strategies.

  • Build the annual procurement Gameplan and ensure value delivery with clear P&L impact.

  • Drive deflationary Unit Cost (UC) improvements and proactively work to grow and enhance profit margins.

  • Coordinate Request for Quotation (RFQ) events and vendor selection in partnership with local and regional stakeholders.

  • Build Should‑Cost models and external benchmarks to support cost leadership.

  • Support the Investment Proposal (IP) process to manage capital investments within scope of responsibility.

  • Ensure the highest levels of service quality and safety.

  • Lead the implementation of new digital sourcing and contract management tools.

  • Promote data‑driven decision‑making and a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) mindset.

  • Foster high levels of employee engagement and a strong sense of belonging.

  • Develop a talent management and capability‑building program, including robust onboarding and training plans.

  • Build a strong operating system to manage performance and drive continuous improvement.

  • Lead by example and champion Maersk’s core values and winning behaviors.

  • Ensure adherence to Global Procurement guidelines and COMIT rules.

  • Drive compliance and Sustainable Procurement (SP) practices throughout the Procure‑to‑Pay process.

  • Lead strategic projects as assigned by senior leadership.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain.

  • Proven experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, and vendor management.

  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder‑management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and deliver business outcomes within a matrixed organization.

  • Proven enterprise‑level leadership experience.

  • Strategic, analytical, and data‑driven mindset.

  • Strong customer‑centric orientation with a focus on service excellence.

Job Type: Full Time

Salary: $150,000 - $190,000 USD*

Benefits: Full-time employees are eligible for Health Insurance, Paid Time Off, and 401k Match.

*The above-stated pay range is the anticipated starting salary range for the position. The Company may adjust this range in light of prevailing market conditions and other factors, such as location. The Company will work directly with the selected candidate(s) on the final starting salary in accordance with all applicable laws.
